Tip Jar: Box-O-Passwords

I thought it'd be fun to share some of our favorite computer tips. Here's one from my "tip jar". If you have any computer tips from your personal "tip jar", please share!


Create a Box-O-Passwords…

Get a recipe card box, A-Z dividers, and blank recipe cards. Each time you sign up with a new Web site service, take out a blank card and write down the site name, your username / e-mail address used to register, and password. File the card alphabetically by Web site. Keep the box-o-passwords near your computer.

Even if you have your Web browser setup to remember passwords or accept cookies, having this box-o-passwords comes in handy as it gives you a back-up location in case something were to go wrong (e.g., deleting cookies). It also keeps your private information offline (away from hackers; important for always-on connections).
