The place I brought this plant from had it listed as "Silver dollar hoya" It wasn't until after I received it, that I knew it wasn't a hoya. It's actually a Xerosicyos danguyi. I wasn't disappointed because I really like this plant. The leaves are really stiff, I don't know what the flowas look like since it hasn't flowered.

Awanda
Speaking of hoya names
Your collection is unbelievable Awanda. edited to say I jumped the gun and assumed the plant above was another Hoya. ;)
Wonderful, extremely unique, collection of plants you have.

Awanda it sure looks like a Hoya. I always thought the silver dollar hoya was H. nummularoides. Don't now why, just thought so. Be sure and keep us updated when it blooms.
Tami
Thank you Lilypon, before I started collecting hoyas I collected a lot of cactus/ adeniums and succulents. I still have quite a few of each of those.
Tami that's what I thought when I saw it on the web, that it looked like a hoya:-)

Awanda
Hey...I did the SAME thing once. Then it dawned on me...DUH...the leaf nodes are not opposite...the leaves are alternating and I don't know a hoya that does that.... boy...I felt so foolish!!
I have something that looks like that only the leaf nodes ARE opposite. I don't think it is a hoya though. I got it from a little dark flower shop on the way back from the gym one day, and the lady in there didn't know what half the plants were and thought it was a cactus of some kind. It sort of looked like a hoya so I got it, but it has never bloomed so I don't know what it is.
I also bought a form of lipstick plant once that I thought was a hoya. In fact it was labeled hoya. It finally bloomed....a yellow lipstick plant type bloom. Ha. I haven't got a picture of that plant on this computer. Will take on later.

It sure has cute little round leaves. I googled it because I wanted to see what the flowers look like but gave up. I did read that it's a member of the cucumber family. Is that true? One website also called it the Silver Dollar Hoya.
Sandy
lol!!
I like this plant, too...and it's a tough one!
Has yours tried to vine yet? Mine tried to take up residence in the semi-sheer valance....had to put a stop to that!
Mine bloomed late last winter/early spring...but I almost missed it and had no batteries and couldn't find the camera cord and......my brain is such a fuddled mess these days (lol!) that I honestly can't tell you what the flowers looked like!! They weren't much to look at....that much I *do* remember!
:( sorry!
Hopefully it'll bloom again this year and I'll get a photo!
This is a neat looking plant, Awanda. I how the leaves are round and succulent looking.
Are you not feeling okay, Nan?? You mean you have this and didn't tell me....tut, tut, tut.
:) Donna
lol!! You're funny, Donna!
Sometimes I forget what I do and don't have...until someone else mentions it!
Not sure if that's just the numbers in the collection getting away from me (!) or the memory failing?!
Susan....I can't believe yours never grew....how long did you have it?
Granted, I've been keeping mine in a small pot (running out of room for potting up ad up and up!), but it does continue to grow, albeit slowly. I keep it in a south window.
I've heard several times that this one is pretty difficult to root.
Have you tried propagating it, Awanda?
I knew what it was when I went 'searching for it' (just thought it was a *cool* plant).....I can't believe that some sellers call it 'Silver Dollar Hoya'!!
Nan I haven't tried to propagate it, but I did send a cutting to a friend, I'll have to check and see if he was able to root it. It does like to twine, but I try to keep it away from anything. Susan this is the one I brought when you got yours. Last year I brought it inside during the winter, and only watered it when completely dry. Ok since we're talking about this plant, here is a picture of a sister plant, called Xerosicyos Perrieri Humbert.
Blessings,
Awanda
Awanda another neato plant to drool over.
:) Donna
now on that one it looks like the leaves are opposite each other. Are they? That sure makes it hard to determine if it is a hoya or not when out looking in the nurserys, huh?
That lipstick plant I have bloomed another big bloom while I was gone. The one flower is orange. I must get out there & take a picture of that too so you know not to buy that thinking it is a hoya.
