3 days of rain it says! had to check how my now nearing 8' tall seedlings fared last night. they are ok. it gets really windy here, and they are on a berm. they are still full of buds, and i can't wait for them to bloom again. the first time they did, i was away. you all can help me indentify them 5 (all the same) later.
so gloomy today.
rainy season already?
many thanks to diane krny and dick for the seeds. soon i'll be babying kell's seedlings for the winter.
my brugs are mostly from generous dgers. can't wait to return the favor come spring.
my first sharing experience. such a joy when i was able to divide the tropicanna donna (socal) gave me last june. i wasn't ready initially, but it was my MOM and my godmother who wanted the off shoots (sept). so there, donna's canna is spreading fast (san diego and san jacinto). lol.
soon i'll be learning to root brugs! before my first year on this ADDICTION.
They all are looking so good Annapet. Fun isn't it??
I have the same sentiments, rain time already?? Aren't we so bad, we get no rain at all for months and months and complain at first sight of it.
It hasn't hit here but should later. I have so many blooms, I hope it doesn't ruin them all. It is getting chilly also. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Time to put up the hoophouse I guess. Tom will be thrilled to hear that. LOL
kell, there should be a COMIC STRIP about this BRUG ADDICTION. it will be from the neighbor's view of things.
kin, thanks. i see holes on leaves here and there, but no major damage. knock on wood.
Great pictures, Annapet. It's chilly here also.
LOL Kin ..... so that's what happened to some of my Brugs. Someone's been using them for target practice. All this time I've been blaming it on those green creepy crawly worms.
Maya is a caterpillar's idea of turkey on Thanksgiving. LOL. It can be eaten to nothing overnight. I wonder how they find it. This year I have been so slow in spraying mine with BT each time they have feasted, it has been a sad looking tree all summer.
kin, now your maya has holes ala monstera deliciosa. lol. now that you posted that, i started noticing more holes on my brugs.
would neem oil help?
i weeded around my brugs (the shorter ones along the fence) this morning. thinking i'll plant some elephant ears to hide their legs.
Hey, Kin. I have some leaves like that too. LOL I cut some big ones off of some cuttings I took today.
argh! i checked the buds late afternoon and looks like some are going to BLOOM AGAIN WHILE I'M AWAY!!!
what's up with that?
Annapet, if the holes are from snails, slugs or caterpillars, I do not think Neem will help. But Bt. for caterpillars does great, one spray and they die. If snails, you need snail bait. I am having a terrible time with baby snails right now. They do not seem to know yet that they like snail bait more than my leaves. They are driving me nuts.
The only other thing that makes holes at my house is those pesky cucumber beetles. Oh how I hate them. I just saw a spray the other day at HD that listed cumber beetles but I do not remember which it was. I am living with them. I squish them when I can and leave them on the leaf as a warning to the others.
I have cats right now also. So I have 3 for 3 eating my leaves at the moment. Shoot.
Here is a blurb on how Bt. works from this site: http://gardening.wsu.edu/library/inse003/inse003.htm
Bt. a biological insecticide, Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.). This control is selective; it kills only caterpillars and is relatively safe for other insects, fish, birds, and warm-blooded animals. Caterpillars must eat a moderate amount of treated leaf to get an effective dose. Thorough coverage of foliage is necessary, and spraying should not begin until early signs of leaf damage appear. The effects of B.t. are not immediately apparent. Caterpillars sicken and stop feeding right away, but they do not die for a few days. Younger larvae are more susceptible to B.t.; once caterpillars are migrating, they do not eat much, and other pesticides are more effective.
