Loooking for Trees in Tomball

Tomball, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi All: First let me say this website really rocks!! Maggiemoo suggested someone may know where I can find a retailer in the Houston or Conroe area that has good trees for retail sale. I am looking for Chinese Pistache, and Golden Raintree (the one with the pink seedpods) 30 gallon or so. Any other trees you can suggest for Tomball? (already planted shummard red oak) My tall stick pines got lightning struck and I lost 20. Thanks! jackie

I'd recommend checking with "The Arbor Gate' nursery in your town. They are a great nursery and very knowledgeable.

My brother lives there, near you, and whenever I go and visit, I like to shop at that nursery.

They also do landscaping, and have done my brother's neighbors yard. They did a great job!

I'd suggest you ask them. They can not only give you good advice for your area, but can also help find you the trees.

Houston Plants and Garden World presently have all plants, including trees at 70% off. I have done very well getting trees from them, but I will say that things get quite picked over after the sale has been going on for more than 2 weeks. Usually the pecans go within 3-4 days. It wouldn't hurt to call the one nearest you and ask if they have what you're looking form, I've even gone as far as to ask them to hold something for me, with the promise I will pick up within 1 day. Since I'm a regular, they know I'm addicted enough and that I will show, LOL.

BTW, I am NOT talking about the yellow and red umbrella nurseries. The names are similar and I imagine many people confuse them.

another thought. you have a 50/50 chance in getting good advice at a place like this, as opposed to Arbor Gate, where the help is superb (and the plants), but if you already know what you want and just want the best price, ck out HP&GW.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help! jackie
