For you thread followers, I have just finished up the 2005 gardening page on my home web site. You'll find it at: http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Ann/Ann_garden05.html
There is also a link from it to a page showing the construction of a new garden expansion.
Enjoy.

2005 garden pictures
Ann,
Enjoy it I did!
I really like the way you've planted your beds and I hope you don't mind if I pilfer a few ideas.
My neighbour just gave me a bunch of Oenothera-acaulis ; I had no idea of what they were called prior to this.
Many thanks for the show!
Erynne
Beautiful gardens Ann. You take such lovely pictures. --Ginny
Impressive! You have some lovely hosta. Whirlwind looks so much like Fire and Ice and Touch of Class is very similar to June.
Todd, you should sit in on some of the Hosta identification threads in the Hosta forum. LOL Yes, many have similarities, but subtle differences as well in leaf size, number of veins, time and color of bloom and even the shape and color of the left petiole.
This list was instrumental in helping me to identify Clausa which I'd had for years - probably from before I knoew what a Hosta was.
Ginny - thank you. I've had very good success with close-ups but am not as happy with general garden scapes as with previous camera which, unfortunately, was lost in March. Present camera is a Fuji E510.
Erynne - feel free to borrow ideas. That's one of the best parts of this list - the sharing of ideas.

Ann,
Great pics! Makes me wish I would have put in more tulips. Hey, it's not too late yet - I may pick up some more. Love your clematis and the Chicago Peace rose is exquisite. Great job!
Great pictures Ann, you had a beautiful Garden.......
Anna
That was great Ann. So much fun to see other gardens. I must get out and plant those tulips and crocuses today.
How deep did the arborist tell you you could put the soil around the tree? We have been thinking of making a bed around a couple of old crabapple trees, and of course I'm afraid to change anything, and kill them.
There's no such thing as too much soil. Only too small flower beds.
You have a lovely yard. Thanks for showing us.
My goodness you are one busy lady! Garden looks great. What part of Ottawa do you live in? I lived for a few years just across from the Riverside Hospital (Faircrest Apartments) .
Ann,
I just went back to look at your Garden Expansion page....and you did a great job! Can't wait to see what the retaining wall will look like and I like the way the lawn is now a nice 'U' shape. We should see what hostas we can trade again in the spring...you have lots of room for them now!
Thanks for sharing your photos for your beautiful garden. I really loved it all. I am now inspired to run out and get more crocus, I guess I didn't really plant nearly enough. Your new bed under the tree will look stunning when it is finished.
Cindy
Ann
Thankyou for sharing I love the abundance of color with blossoms you have shown. There will be much fun at your house with your new front bed and I look forward to seeing the next step!
Ann ( the other one)
What a magificent display of colours you have and had! ......wonderful photography! Elaine
Thanks for all the positive comments. As you all know, it is a labour of love.
echoes, the arborist didn't say, but in general you want to be careful not to change the level of soil immediately around a tree trunk. For a week or so it was too high and then we dug out the tree trunk. On the stree side of the tree, the lawn slopes off; so we are makeing the garden more level, hence the retaining wall.
fancyvan, I'm in Beacon Hill North. My church is close to where you lived - on Smyth Rd.
I'm at work - gotta get out of here and go take a couple of pictures of the gardens we've planted. Am hoping they come soon to build the retaining wall. I'm leary of planting the new bulbs in that garden before they do.
Please advise me - did any of you find that the page took too long to download? I may split it into 2 pages.
Ann
It was worth the wait.
sanannie, I'll have lots of room for hostas in the new bed but I can still get more medium sized ones in there than huge ones. LOL And some of the ones I got from you in September are slated to go there. Also my Paul's Glory which I moved to make room for one of yours. It's in a temporary holding bed. (But when I move them I can fill those temporary beds with hostas too. ;-D )
Ann
Ann, your site came up instantly for me this morning (high speed here).
Ann they are wonderful gardens, what a beautiful yard it was. It loaded instantly here too, except for the 'bunch of daylilies picture. (high speed here too)
Ann, It loads in about 5 mins and I have to refresh to get the bottom half, but we're on dialup (no choice) and I'm used to waiting! And as echoes said, it was worth the wait! The clematis is beautiful.
I'll break it up and put a link from the first page to the second. I downloaded it at the Food Cupboard yesterday where we have 33,600 dial-up (if we're lucky) because of the phone lines even though we've got a faster modem. I found it stopped downloading a couple of times.
Ann
For the benefit of those who are still on dial-up (like me), the page has been split into two smaller pages. Same address:
http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Ann/Ann_garden05.html
Ann
For those who peeked at the garden expansion page,
http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Ann/Ann_newgarden.html
it now has pictures of the finished project.
Ann
Ann,
Your retaining wall is wonderful! I like how it blends so nicely with the colours of your house. Bet you're excited about filling all that new space!
Sandy
Absolutely beautiful Ann! You've been doing a fantastic job there. I'm envious :-)
--Ginny
Oh my! I thought I had replied to this thread but I see I've been remiss. :S
LOVELY yard, BEAUTIFUL plants .......GORGEOUS pics!!! Ever thought of coming to the prairies for a visit Ann??? :)
Lily..
We used to get out there fairly often. My husband grew up in Vegreville, AB and in the late 60's and 70's we drove out a couple of times. Then his parents moved to Calgary where they lived until they both passed away a few years ago. Now since his aunt has moved to Vancouver to be with her daughter there (and our daughter #2 is also there), we more often head to the coast and by air.
