Extra seeds
For anyone that has leftover veggie seeds and would like to help a good cause - if you would be so kind as to send inanda some veggie seeds for her kids at the Guerrilla gardens that she hosts, it would be very helpful. Carrots, peas, lettuce, easy things that grow quickly would be good. Hope she can jump in here and tell us what would be suitable.

I am sure I have some veggie seeds that I can give to inanda,
next time I see her..
Just have to go through all my seeds,,
and for myself don't think I need any seeds, ( but if I change my mind I will e-mail you)
wouldn't know where to plant them.
Wilma
Where, and who is Inanda... Sorry ;-)
I have lots of veggie's seeds to share (lettuces, tomatoes, pickles, herbs, squash, bean, soya etc) please tell me what to do and where to find information on her garden.
I would like to get some seeds from you
Aquilegia canadensis
Arctosis venusta
Asclepias incarnata ‘Soulmate’
Digitalis grandiflora
If you want to know exactly the seeds I will offer, please tell me, I will make a list.
Hi,
I don't need any seeds, but tell me more about Inanda's projects. Can she use left over veggie seeds of any kind or just certain things? I'll have a look through what I have around and send anything appropriate that I don't think I need for next year.
Ann
You see now, if you visited the Canadian forum more often, you would have met inanda (Ginny). She lives in central Wpg and gardens in empty lots with some of the neighbourhood kids. Also does some other kind and generous things with them, and I thought if we could help them out with some veggie seeds it would keep them interested in the gardens and be more affordable. It isn't a requirement though, I just want to give away some seeds as I have a compulsion for gathering seeds.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/553246/
inanda introduced herself in this thread, so I feel that I am not giving away any secrets.
I'll send the seeds you want, if you would Dmail me with your address, and I will let you know where to send the veggies seeds if you have some you want to donate.
Brenda
Sorry, missed you as I was posting Ann. I will get inanda in here asap.
For some reason can't post photos from my camera to computer but anyway. I would love carrots, zuchinnni, lettuce, large tomatoes -beefsteak type - have a pkt of tumblers- Don't need peas - have a couple of lbs of them -
Sweet peas would be fun though. Beans - have quite a few a lb. or so I think but wouldn't mind some pole beans if anybody has any around. Kids want to grow living teepees next year. I'll buy potatoes because they are too heavy to ship. Cukes would be useful. They don't like cabbage/broccoli(silly kids).
What else do you collectively think kids would like to plant and eat.
Really think Echoes is just so kind to do this. Am so glad she is an obsessive seed gatherer.
Oh yes, peppers & beetroot. Mothers want peppers. Hot and sweet too. We have already planted garlic and will buy baby onions in the spring. Onions have to be planted in back yards though. I plant them inbetween the lilies so vandals don't recognise and pull them.
What veggies can be planted in semishade - about 2 hrs. of sun per day. Potatoes?? I don't know, because I've always planted veggies in the sun. Are there any?
Am trying to find somewhere to plant pumpkins in secret. Am sure they would be stolen by people walking through the Guerrilla garden. We didn't plant any this year because we started gardening too late. Maybe we won't be able to grow any, but the kids want to try.
In case you wonder why I don't go to foundations etc for $$, it is because I need a charity number. This means that I almost have to be under some local do good umbrella. Don't want to do this because right away, a fire pit - what insurance do we have? Kids playing with fire - very bad. Tree house - not allowed under terms of whatever. The fact that it is 3 ft off the ground makes no diff. Not to mention the thingy for the skateboarders. More insurance problems.
These kids have mainly moved to the city from reserves where they had lots of space, so...... I'm giving them a safe space to play as they like on their own street. Only rules are - no hurtful words or actions and stay out of others garden plots.
Inanda
Brenda, you have posted quite a selection. There is a few I am interested in. Inanda, I know I have some different kinds of tomatoes, beans and a few others I have to check my list that I can pass on to you for the kids. I'll check this weekend.

I think I can still send you all of those Sandy. You will need some new plants to replace all those "trades" from your Murrican friends come spring.
Yep, that's the plan! LOL
Sandy
Everyones packets were sent out today. Good thing because it doesn't look like the roads are going to be very inviting for the next few days. So that's all for now.
Thanks to everyone that has offered seeds for Ginny's Guerrilla Gardening project. They will certainly be appreciated.
Thanks echoes for your generous and creative offer. It was a pleasure to help the cause of Guerrilla Gardening and feed my seed collecting habit at the same time...
Susan
I received my seeds today, thanks so much echoes!
Sandy
Susan, Sandy, you are very welcome. I hope they all germinate well for you.
echoes

Marin
I would like to thank all the DGers who have been kind enough to send veggie seeds for the Guerrilla Garden (GG) Am quite sure we will have a most beautiful garden next year. Cannot thank you enough. It is most exciting to have such a wonderful selection for the children to choose from.
There have been a couple of developments in the past few weeks.
Have received permission from the airport authority to plant a bed of pumpkins out there. This is exciting because it means they will not be picked by passers by.
Quite a few potatoes are already grown there for the food bank so I thought, nothing venture, nothing gain. Those who sent pumpkin seeds, that is where they will be growing, next season.
Last summer we took veggies to the food bank. We had more than we could use and without freezers we could not keep them as the mothers did not want to bottle them.
The kids had all gone to the food bank to get food with their mothers in the past but had never thought about being able to give. Now one of the oldest boys has decided to volunteer at the food bank so he goes over every Saturday to pack for a few hours.
Our christmas party is Dec 10th so we are very busy wrapping prezzies, collecting boots/gloves etc. An exciting time of year for younger members of our community.
Merry Christmas to all, flying in the face of political correctness.
Inanda
Inanda
Correctness aside "Merry Christmas" to you too!
May all your angels be singing and their halo's glow light your way during this very giving time of year.
I love to hear about the difference you are making and it truly inspires me to do more. Way too many folks think that one person can't make a difference ...but that is all it takes!
Ann
