getting my brug ready for winter

Piedmont, SC(Zone 7b)

hi everyone,

i got my first brug as a gift from my mom in the spring...planted it and it is just beautiful!! this is my first winter with it and am wondering what is the best thing to do with it. she told me that it would be okay to leave in the ground over the winter and that it would grow back next spring. just wondering if anyone has first hand knowledge with this? i am in zone 7b. i would be so sad if it did not make it thru the winter..it is just too pretty!

hmm I am in a lower zone, perhaps someone else will come along with good advice, but I am not so sure it will over winter in that zone, perhaps you should take some cuttings to root in water "just in case" yours doesn't pull thru come spring.

someone i chatted with told me to mulch extra thick and cross my fingers. i guess that is what i will do. think i should put some kind of covering on top if it?

i will take cuttings though, that is a good idea.

thanks.

I'm in zone 7b here in Richmond, and I overwintered several last year. I piled my compost/mulch up as high and thick as 18 inches and two feet wide and cut back to just above the pile. They were slow returning, but they did well after May. I am planning on leaving about 25 out this winter, and will cut them all back in the next week or so. I'll also take lots of cuttings.

I'm in 7a, they do come back here also.
