Passiflora "Maypop" better way to extract seeds?

Augusta, WV(Zone 5b)

I'm interested in finding out how others extract their passiflora seeds from the fruit when they know they are ripe(?) Specifically P. incarnata. What methods anyone employs to do this, also cleaning, storing, etc..... I'm doing a study on this and need some input from others who have done this as well. Any info or ideas shared would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I use fruit that are crammed full of pulp that covers very dark brown seeds. IMO, using a wire mesh collander/strainor to use like a cheese grater to remove the pulp. I've tried every other means IMO and this is the easiest. Don't worry about hurting the seeds when your cramming the pulp off of them. Those seed coats are harder than many rocks!
This is mainly for Incarnata seeds btw, some other maybe more tender.
Good luck;)

JD - Thank you for sharing. Do you rinse your seeds off lightly or do you let them dry and then flake the jelatin like crust off the seeds?

I've done it both ways, it just depended on how big of a hurry I was in. Using the metal strainor was the best way to scrape off that pulp like stuff while it was still wet/fresh. I don't know if there is a best way honestly. I would try a few ways and see which suits you best.
Last year, I picked some fruit and didn't bother with them until they dried. The fruit molded from the inside and the seeds weren't nearly as viable even though they looked perfect. So don't do it that way;)
I'll work on some of my fruit ASAP and see if 1 method works best, maybe I've forgotten a trick.
Goodluck, JD
