I bought seeds on ebay that are called Datura metel double purple brugmansia seed. I just read it cant be both datura and brugmansia. Could any one explain this? This is the first time I have ever grown any thing like this. On a good note they have all sprouted within 2 weeks and look great with there purple stems.

If it is purple it is Datura. There are many differences between Datura and Brugmansia. The seeds are different for one--Datura seeds resemble green pepper seeds-flat while Brug seeds are like small dried up prunes!! I could go on and on with the differences. About the only true similarity is that they are both fatal if eaten!! Bonnie
Hmmm. I guess the person who sold the seeds didnt know what they where talking about. lol Oh well I cant wait to see the purple blooms. thanks for the info.
Lavenderwolf, there are a lot of people that call Daturas Brugmansia when you grow them you will learn Daturas flower is upright, Brugs hang down, also seed pod on Daturas have prickerly spines Brugs are smooth and long, they are both lovely flowers.
Those are beautiful flowers, you will love them.
