To see your house just go to

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

http://earth.google.com/ and download it. My DF and DB told me about it and said they could even see their vehicles on the street.

I just checked out a number of Canadian cities (search engine at top of screen beside planet earth) and was blown away by the detail. :O (I also have a bad case of vertigo now ;)

Even more amazing is hopping from Canada to Florida and then over the ocean to Japan, Hawaii, Australia and then to the pyramids of Egypt.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Pam, Holy smoke! I downloaded it, and I can see the house with my white truck parked on the side of the road. the image is less then 18 months old. It's pretty amazing! According to the map coordinates, the house is at
48degrees 28'52.29"N and 123degrees 20'16.40"W I couldn't see the pryamids though, can't get the search words right, and in New zealand it doesn't get as close up as it does here. I can see this is going to be my new toy for a while. thanks Pam

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

awesome; is it realtime (i notice a percentage streaming thing on it)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Nope not realtime Lynn our house still has the old shingles on it, but i'd say it is within the 18 mos Linda stated (the new addition is on Mom's and Dad's house so Moose Jaw's pics are within 10 mos). When the streaming is at 100% it means it is as focused as it's going to get.

Some places didn't have close-ups taken ie. small towns in Saskatchewan......but in most larger centers the focus is exceptionally clear (at a certain distance).

Glad you both are enjoying it......it is truly amazing (and a safe download......it's connected to National Geographic).

Winnipeg,, MB(Zone 3a)

My son downloaded it about a month ago and showed us our house, really neat to see it all.

Hi.

I have downloaded Google Earth a while ago and played with it extensively. These are satellite photos of the planet's surface but the resolution varries greatly from one area to another. For example, if you look at Fort Lauderdale, you'll see some areas are highly detailed to the point where you can count the air conditionning units on top of large buildings and other areas are blurry. I guess each time they get a higher resolution piece of the puzzle, they update the databank. For Montreal, my friend's house is shown in winter, whereas mine, a few streets over is in summer because we can make out the pool's blue shape, the deck's sun shade and the trees with leaves on.

As for the pyramids, you can't just type in pyramids. However, you can look up the location of the pyramids with the Google search engine and then enter the latitude and longitude directly instead of the words "pyramids". The search could be successful by entering something like "egypt pyramids longitude latitude". The help section will tell you how to enter that info into the Google Earth application.

Yesterday, we were watching live coverage of Fort Lauderdale's CBS4-WFOR on the internet. When they mentionned places like Naples, Florida, we could go to Google Earth and see where that was located while still listening to the coverage. I have to agree with everyone that this is one nifty application.

Thank you for explaining it so well Sylvain. Ü

I was surprised to find that Moose Jaw's resolution (thank you for the term;) is pretty clear but some places in Florida are still very blury.

My SIL has been talking about this. Think I have to get a new computer though - I'm still running Windows 98. Give me a few months. ;-)
