This is the end of it for this year

Have been waiting for the first frost. Needless to say last night we got the first freeze of this year. I went out this morning to check every thing out and all my beautiful blooming brugs were froze stiff. At least I took cutting of the ones I wanted for next year, and dug up the ones I wanted to save. The only two I dug up were P & C and Maya. I just dug up Maya yesterday afternoon, and got some cuttings, and put her in the GH.

Now I have to wait for more sweet smelling flowers. When the brugs started blooming my husband didn't like them. Said it was unnatural for a flower to hang down toward the ground and not up toward the sky. But one night last week he was sitting on the front steps and the wind was out of the east, and he smelled something but didn't know what it was, then he yelled for me to come out and take a smell. He said do you suppose it is those flowers over by the sidewalk. I told him it was and then he didn't believe me so he got up and went over to take a smell. Now he really likes the flower. But still thinks it should grow up toward the sky. That night we had our bedroom windows opened and our bedroom smelled just like the brugs. It was simply wonderful.

The attached picture is the one that was putting out all the sweet smell.

Try some nodding types that are from Eventide or its hybrids - I prefer them myself.
Nice finale in your garden.

Linda that is a beauty. Look at all those blooms you have!! You must have had sweet dreams all night long.
Hey.. your DH most likely won't even notice they are not pointing upwards by the time next years blooms come around. He will just remember that sweet smell they gave you so late in the year and welcome them in your garden.

He is already missing them. We had three nights the temp. got down to 31* and now we no longer have anything nice in the yard. He has been complaining every night when he comes home from work about our yard looking so naked. He told me you really don't appreciate what you have until you loose it.

Linda, We got down to 38 but forecast for next week is way above the freezing mark. Such a pleasure with this extended stretch of favorable weather. I know when we get the first freeze I will be missing everything.
:(
Say... There is hope for some of us Guys. LOL

I thought we did real good holding off like it did. But I have heard a few locals say they thought we got a early frost this year.

Hang in there GGK you are doing good, still you are two zones away from me. That comment on the zones was like bursting a bubble wasn't it. Sorry for that.

I can still go out in the greenhouse and see all my Hibiscus blooming which is nice.

Maybe plant a Datura just for him?
