Ok...one more picture before I go to bed. I took this one last summer too of my shepherdii when it was in full out BLOOMIN mode. This was the most blooms I got on any of these plants (I have several shepherdiis). I hung this one right in front of my bedroom window, and I could smell it when I walked in the room at night and any time I woke up at night. It bloomed for 2 months more or less. Ahhhhh...it was lovely.

Hoya shepherdii
I've got a small start of this unique little beauty.....after admiring yours I sure hope I can increase it's size (and pot) soon. :)
Absolutely beautiful, Marcy.
Do you have any secrets you want to share about getting it to bloom so much?
It looks like you grow it in a lot of light. True? Any direct sun? Your blooms are amazing!!!
Wow, that's unreal Marcy. It looks like it has more blooms than it has leaves. It's beautiful....you sure know how to grow them.
Sandy
My gosh, Marcy - - I think you have as many BLOOMs on this thing as you do LEAVES! You've GOT to have some secrets up your sleeves - - !
Outstanding.. another one goes on the "gotta have" list.
Barb
That's beautiful, Marcy!!
Marcy,
Your Hoya's are all beautiful. I ended up throwing my shepherdiis away. I know straight to hell as Carol says.. I swear they would grow 2 leaves drop one. Never really did well, the cuttings I received looked very old. I love yours though and may think about getting some more.....:{ urggg did I say that... I don't have room. :( sigh.
c'on Marcy...spill it up...I have been growing mine, perhaps, in too much shade...it is 6' long but never that many blooms.
Carol
Marcy are you using some left over "stuff" from the 60's on your hoyas:-)??? This is really starting to depress me....seeing all of your awesome flowas. Come on and fess up!!
Blessings,
Awanda
I really don't do anything much different than all of you. I just followed the advise on these forums. The ONLY thing different I did than most of you was I did use some of that "Messenger" in the spring. However I don't think that had an impact as I used it on every other hoya & plant I had out there & only certain ones acted like this shepherdii. In fact I have 2 other shepherdiis that got the very same treatment and they only had a few blooms. So I guess it is just the individual plant or something. Same way with that lacunosa. I have 3 of them hanging around too, and ONLY that one decided to burst forth in bloom like that. ... so I don't really know what does it.
You asked about sunlight on the shepherdii. It is on the South side of the house so it does get some, however there is an overhang there that shades it most of the day. There is also some corregated plastic roofing stuff that I put up to keep rain off the plants in the winter. I have sans & cactus under there also. It is a "smoky" color so it shades them from any hot direct sun. There is very good light there though. When I did have a shepherdii haning on the tree in front, it kept getting yellow & burnt looking leaves, so I don't think they like a lot of sun on them.
I usually use the Elenaors in the spray bottle in spring & summer too. I have been fertilizing with ST and a dropperful of Shultz 10-15-10 in the water. That is about it.
I really have no clue as to why certain ones just decide to burst into bloom or not. I have LOTS of them that have NEVER bloomed in spite of trying all the usual things on them.
Who knows? I sure love it when they do though, as it is a form of reward for all the work I do with them. Ha.

Another magnificient hoya!
