I received a whole bunch of mystery plumie seeds when I purchased some named seeds. They all germinated and I am excited to see in a few years what I have. One little lonely seed has come up with some spectacular variegated leaves. I have never seen that in a plumie before, or at least not in the ones I have or friends have. Are there a lot of variegated plumeria out there?
Variegated plumeria
Hi Ipakosh! There are many more variegated plumerias in Thailand than there are here. There are some gorgeous ones there. Check out Kukiat's thread on variegated plumerias that was posted here on this forum a few months ago. Hopefully, we will see some more in time.
Variegation can be caused by a virus, by a mineral deficiency, or by a chimera. Most seedlings grow out of leaves which appear variegated in time as it is usually caused by a deficiency of some sort. If your leaves are pure white with no green showing at all, then the seedling lacks chlorophyll, and unfortunately, it will not live very long this way.
Thanks for the info Clare, I will look it up right away.....or at least as soon as I am finished putting all of my babies away in prep for Hurricane Wilma.
The seedling is not pure white, it is a beautiful ripple of white and dark green. I will take a pic and put it here after the storm.

Lisa, I would love to see a picture of your seedling. It sounds super neat! Here is Kukiat's thread with some amazing variegated plumerias: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/536953/
Please do take care of yourself during Hurricane Wilma and be safe.
Thanks, I will! The house is set, all the babies are safe in the garage, with all the little critters that travel with them. I never knew I would be sharing a home with so many spiders, frogs, geckos....etc! It is quite a zoo here! I will put a pic of the plumeria here as soon as our power comes back after the storm.

Your zoo sounds like paradise to me. Take care, and we'll keep in touch.
