Such a deal!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Calif_Sue and I went plant shopping Thursday. I saw a Black Aralia there that was about 5 ft tall. It had the best crinkly leaves. I fell in love. I decided I couldn't live another moment without it. So I pushed some other plants out of the way so I could see the price and then I died

I figured forget that plant. A while later I saw the manager and I asked if she could order me a smaller one for I couldn't afford such a steep price.

Then I asked if the plants ever went on sale. She said yes, she was thinking of putting them on sale. So I said excited, thinking a 50% sale would be good, when would the sale be. The manager then asked when did I want to buy it. I said, "RIGHT NOW!!" LOL

And she said to me "well then it is on sale right now for $50.00." I died again.

Then she left to get a new tag, and Sue said to me she heard her say $50 OFF not the price of $50. So I sagged.

When the manager came back I asked her how much did you say this will cost and she said $50. There was only one thing left to do........I kissed her!!

My luck just ran out. I am so sick.

I JUST bought a brand new, just released Canon Powershot SD 550, 7.1 megapixels. I had it in my pants pocket. I took it out to take a picture a little wqhile ago and the screen shows a big color splotch surrounded by black and some lines. I must have hit it on somthing when it was in my pocket. $500 GONE!!!!!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

We ar both not having a good week after that high of plant sjhopping, Kell busting her new camera and me after getting home that day and unloading my car, I went back out that night to check on something and forgot to lock it back up, someone rifled thru the car and stole our GPS. Second time within 6 months that I left it unlocked and had stuff stolen out of it. Talked to our neighbor today and he had left his truck unlocked about 3 weeks ago and had stuff stolen too which tells us it has to be someone that comes thru probably every night to check all the cars on the block. We are looking into first a security spy camera to try to catch him on tape and once we do, then we'll add the big bright motion sensor lights. I sooo wanna catch this person red handed!! Want my GPS back darn it!

Anyways, Kells deal on that huge tree was awesome. It is such a architecturally handsome tree too and we read that they take a long time to reach that size and height and that is why they are often so expensive that size.

This is our next quest, this awesome Vireya. What was it's name Kell?

Kell - if it's brand new, it should have a warranty. You don't have to volunteer that you might have hit it on something - you aren't even sure that you did!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Really Sue. We should go duck our heads. LOL. Well I ordered the new S80 on line last night so I can't wait till I get it. I wonder if the new 21/2 screens cause a real weakness in these new cameras. I really have no clue how I did it. However, it is clear I did something so I do not think they will think otherwise. LOL. I did find where you send them in to be fixed so we will see what Canon says.

Oh Sue, don't you just love that vireya rhododendron. I need it so much. I was hoping you would remember its name. LOL

Oh, Kell... I can relate to electronics panic. Just last night, my daughter touched a big magnet to my TV screen leaving color splotches in two spots. :( Fortunately, after an hour online trying to figure out how to fix it, I turned it back on and it had self corrected. I hope that you're as lucky with your camera.

Great job on the tree deal!

Hi Kell, I've been away for a week so I've got lots of catching up to do. Great find on the tree and about the camera, give it a shot. I had only had my new Nikon for 3 weeks when it went bonkers. It was under a 1 yr manufacturers warranty, so they sent it off and although it took about 3 months, I got it back good as new. In the meanwhile, I used my old one. If you've already ordered a new one (hard to be without one isn't it?) and they can fix this one, then you'll have a back-up.

SL X EP has about 6 buds that I hope will open before frost.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Kell, is this my surprise? The postage shouldn't be THAT bad! ROTFLOL Really, really nice!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh shucks Chele, you weren't supposed to see it. LOL Now I need to find something else for your surprise.

I am sending it into Canon. It does not have a mark on the case or even the viewfinder. So I have no clue what happened to it.

Linda that will be the first Sexy lady baby to bloom. I can't wait to see it. I am hoping it looks just like SL but is darker from the EP. Too bad it is so late in the season and all the flowers will be off. SL is such a good brug, so easy and happy and big. She just got done with one flush last week and is already starting another. SL is a Susie brug.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, one of your 'mixed pinks' is blooming too. I couldn't get a good photo because it's so tall, but it is a huge flower, dark pink. It has a few more to go so I'll try to get a pic.

The buds on SL look like they need another 2-3 weeks to open. Our weather has started cooling off, nights in the 40s days 70s and 80s. Hope they open before frost.

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Wow!! Yes she definitely deserved a Kiss and a hug dinner, what else?! hehehe GOOD DEAL!! Very happy for you!! Bonnie

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

:( Sorry to hear about your camera...but lovin' that 'killer deal' you got!
At least there was good news to go with the bad.

I have a small one of these...it cost somewhere around $15, and I've had it around 4 years...it's *still* quite small!!

They do, indeed, grow *very* slowly...I'm so envious!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What conditions do you keep it living under Nan? I just love the look of it. Th e leaves are so dark and brooding in their twists and turns.

I was at another nursery and the owner and I had a chat. I asked him if he ever got them in and he said not anymore because they were so expensive. I told him I got one and he couldn't believe the deal. I hope it likes it here. I will be crushed if it prefers a drugstore over me.

Linda, all those mixed pinks had great partners as I recall. I can't wait to see a picture.

Kell, you can keep the plant if you will come here and put in some garden labor. :)

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Mine is receiving indirect light several feet from a south window. I'm sure it could tolerate (and would probably prefer) more light....but it seems to be happy where it's at and I'm not going to mess with it, as I've found some Polyscias to be very temperamental about their location.
I do think if it had more light I might see more growth....but....see above, lol!

Keep in mind, the house is quite full of plants, and 'prime spots' are hard to come by!

I let it go *very* dry before watering again....Polyscias seem to appreciate that, and are prone to rot easily when overwatered.

I just can't *believe* that you got that huge tree for 50 bucks!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Chele, I will come with Sue and we will forget the work and go plant shopping. We both do that best.

So how can your plants get their roots in far enough not to be frozen???

PS: Nan. Thanks. I will do the same. I need to get a nice pot for it too. It looks great where I have it even if my DH thinks it is so ugly.

ROTFLOL Heck, if you and Sue are buying, I'll leave all these plants here and we can start over. :)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

LOL, I'll be too poor to buy if I fly out again! Heck,I am almost too broke just shopping with Kell here!

Of course, there's always plastic...shhhh, did I say that out loud?!

I just love green, green in the yard, the back of the car, in my wallet, such a pretty color!
Actually, I need to find a green credit card 'cause I never have the other green in there anyways.

Oh Chele, I can't afford myself. My husband can't afford me either. Maybe I should come live with you. Can you afford me?? I do not do housework or cooking. I do buy plants and will plant them. No weeding. You need to get a big supply of Amend for me. When can I come? Oh and I like to eat well.

LOL Sue, we are so bad together. But what fun we have. Look at that dark green begonia with the dark maroon reverse in that trunk. Just a beauty, huh?

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Ooohh...that begonia *is* a looker! lol!!
What's the plant behind the uppermost leaf of that begonia and that 'hanging pot' handle?

I happened to 'wonder' later.....how *did* you get that Aralia home?!
