If you read my post today on "Found this chrysalis? this morning", you might have been surprised that some caterpillars change colors depending on what they are feeding on. This post is to show you before and after pictures of Orange Barred Sulphur cats taken on one of my Christmas Senna bush/trees.
Since I only have a "before flowering" picture I will show you that. The attached picture of the Orange Barred Sulphur cat shows it green stripped. It's green because it's only eating leaves.
In a couple of weeks you can see the "after flowering" picture. This will be when the yellow flowers bloom and the Orange Barred Sulphur cats begin to only eat the yellow flowers vs the leaves they eat the rest of the year. Eating the yellow flowers will turn them into yellow and dark green stripped cats.
By the way, this Christmas Senna bush/tree gets a trememdous amount of activety by all kinds of insects. More so than any other plant in the yard. When they get on the leaves, they stay there for long periods of time. A wide variety of bees, flies, ants, some kind of white thing that looks like a tick, dozens of other unknown creatures and the cats.
In a few weeks I will continue with the after picture.
