How do I keep my dog out of my pond?

Lewiston, ID(Zone 5b)

About 2 months ago I rescued a young dog that was in a tiny cage in the hot sun, no food or water and had 9 pups. She's small, probably due to what she's been through, and probably part Rottweiler and part golden retriever. I doubt that she is a year old. She is darling, but continually gets into my used-to-be-beautiful pond (11 X 16). What are some of your ideas to keep her out of the pond? I did buy her a children's pool, but the pond is her favorite. I have another rescue dog that is mostly Rhod. Ridgeback, who, incidentally hates water. Both dogs get along with each other. I'd love some help. Thanks.

nothing except a fence will keep a water dog out of the water....

maybe make it a dog pond?:)

Hi Linden,
Yes, I agree with Annac. If your pond is an 'in the ground' pond, you could create a beach area where the dog could get in without hurting anything. I have two dogs, the larger of which loves to get in water. She can access the pond via the beach, but backs up when the depth drops off fast.
Other than that, fencing is the only answer I know of. You might do a search in this forum on dogs and ponds because if I recall correctly it's been under discussion in the past, like maybe last spring. Good luck.
