When are they ready?

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

My seed pods are getting longer every day I have three that are hard but the 4 LONG ones on M & H are softer, how can I tell when they are ready to pick.

Are you growing out all those seeds, Doris? Won't it be exciting to watch your own crosses grow into seedlings!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would say you have a long time to go. They can take 3 months on up. I had some over winter last year and weren't ready till June!!! I think winter slows them down.

On mine, I usually see a little yellowing spot or a crack first. Others say they notice the peduncle turns yellow.

What kind of seed is this? I have only seen the round ones with prickly thins on them.
I am learning a lot about these flowers that are interesting.

Thanks kell, at least now I know what to look for, these are about three months or more along as they were there long befor I dug them up.
The one that is short, and fat on GL I found in Aug.

Eileen I won't grow them all out, I will give some away but must do some to see what they look like, some are M&H X Isobella, one is Unknown pink from kell X M&H, Dr. Suess X Jean Pasko

LavinMae the ones with prickly spikes are Datura, these are Brugmansia,

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Doris, remind me about that unknown pink again. I need to ID it.

Well then Doris, soon you should see them ripen unless the winter has really slowed them down. I bet you are so anxious. LOL. Aren't these entertaining??

Hi LavinMae, if you want some seeds D-Mail me with SEED in the subject line so I can find the dmail easily when I get mine sorted out and packed. Which better be soon.

I am sure it is Butterfly. It wasn't a seedling was it? I also sent you L'Amour, I remember. But I think that was the first batch and it may have died. As I recall, you didn't seem to know yet that was a special brug so I didn't tell you when it died. LOL .

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

gee kell I don't remember L'Amour but you sent me seedling of Charles Grimaldi X L'Amour and she is doing fine, she is 4" 5" tall but didn't bloom yet but has Yd twice

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I will be interested to see how it does. I have one dark yellow from that cross but Ada got an ugly one and I think I got an ugy one too. I hope you get a good one!!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I hope so too kell, I took all the large leaves off the plants to bring them in so they would not be so crowded, they seem to like it in my new room, so does the gnats, but I had experience with them last year, this year I am ready for them, I have ordered Nematoids that Brugie told me about.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Good luck with them. I have them back too. I hate them. I used that stuff last year and it does work for awhile. Everything seems to work for awhile till it doesn't anymore. LOL

Corte Madera, CA

doris, good luck on the pods. kell, i have to wait over winter? i noticed pods are growing on my unknown seedman seedlings, too. the excitement never ends.
