I swear it's GREEN

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

A while back I posted a picture of a Poppysue seedling, a very pretty pink. Well the other "poppysue" seedling finally bloomed and it is a dingy, mottled buff and green color. Anyone else get this color - perhaps it's because it bloomed for the first time in the chill fall weather? (no frost yet in zone 5 but nights are in the high 30's-low 40's). Well here it is anyway.

Green is my favorite color so maybe we need a green brug. Wow that pink one!

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

interesting! love the second pink one, first is different huh? lol

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Eileen, what is the cross of the second picture? I have a seedling of PoppySue's that looks like yours.

It sure looks light yellowish green to me. This time of year with the cool weather they don't have the true colors. I find it interesting, such a contrast in color from summer time blooms.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I like green flowers also...it would be nice if it stayed that way!

And yes, what is the pink sdlg of poppysues? It looks like one of my poppysue sdlgs, too!

I wonder if it is the same cross? Don't you think they look similar?

They sure both have those long thin tubes. Both are just fantastic!! And I like how the parents are different than the usual pink ones (assuming they are the same). More genes to play with.

Eileen, is that the first day of your green one? It could still turn pink this week. The cool weather can really alter the colors! Also I find the first flush may be different to from when the brug settles down.

Beautiful photos, I have several budded up and hope they make it to bloom before a cold snap. Most of mine only have 3-4 buds, not a full flush like above.

I'm pleased to say that here in Arky, I have the biggest flushes I've ever had, blooming and getting ready to bloom. At this time of the year, they are like hurricanes here, I track them for days and days before they bloom - when it's hot, they can come and go within a few hours - fall is wonderful!!! I have at least two 2/22/05 seedlings with big flushes and several other new flushes ready for their first flushes, I find this very exciting, assuming some new blight, bug, hurricane, hail, high water or tornado doesn't get them, it's the south, so who knows, whew!!!

This cross is Rosamond X seedling (Ursuline X Australie). It stayed buff/green for about one day, now the skirt is faintly pink. Is that the same cross that you (picturelady, ahelms) have? I agree that picturelady's blooms are very close to mine.

Here she is this morning, it is chilly and rainy.

edited to say, both seedlings are from the same cross, from Poppysue.

This previous thread about the other poppysue seedling includes pictures of Ursuline and Australie. Neither one is actually pink.

That is a beauty too Eileen. Sue did so great. I really miss her on here. I never knew you could be cured from a gardening obsession. I told my husband there is hope yet for me.

So are these seedlings still around?? seedling (Ursuline X Australie) and Sdlg (Ursuline X Cuba 2)

I sure hope so, they make the most delectable babies.

Can someone please tell me again...how to find the daily newsletter and the Photo of the Day!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

From the "Home" tab, click on the "News" tab, then click on the right where it says "Today's Dave's Garden Newsletter". The Photo is one of the first things.

Does this help?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you gayle...I got it now!

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks mornin_gayle, photo of the day is pretty cool! Well we had low enough temps last night to wilt lots of the brug leaves and this one was one of them. I'll have to winter it over and see what it does next summer!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Margie. I know yours is. I bet you take care of that beauty like gold. LOL. I was talking about the parents. The seedlings (Ursuline X Australie) and (Ursuline X Cuba 2). I guess Sue had them.

Holding out on me huh, Ada. LOL She is a beauty.

Ursuline must be a beauty!! Who has her??

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

OoooO She is PRETTY!! Does she have a name yet? She looks Sinful enough for "Bodice Ripper", ROFL!!!

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

that sure pretty too Ada :)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Ada...she is gorgeous!

A question...for the observant...is she very similar to my sdlg from the same parents...I see the mother and father are opposites...? I know the color is similar, how about the other characteristics like shape of the bloom. I love Ada's bloosoms tendricles...the shape of them...Maybe I will do a side to side comparison.....after I get my DH's breakfast that he is calling for!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

A comparison...of two seedlings with the same parents...reversed mother and father...

Both are highly desirable. I would love to see Ursuline. I LIKE!!! LOL

THANKS Margie.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Wow, such interesting seedlings, so similar in color. Yours, Ada, substantial and elegant, and yours, Margie, ruffled and flirty, both worthy, interesting and fun. At this time of the year, this year in particular, it seems that many seedlings, in the pink family, are near the same color, or is it my imagination??

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Well Eileen--when you do cuttings of that green Brug I would very much like one!! Looks liek the Philo I was trading here is yours and if you like I could throw in a Dr Suess cutting as well in exchange for your cutting of the green/pink Brug?!! LMK!! Bonnie
