Seed Pod

Prescott, AZ

I had to show you all my seed pod. Well mine now, it was Carols. Yes now she's sending out seed pods with her plants. ;) It is just amazing how this little peduncle is holding this pod. Looks like it is drying up, and I'm getting nervous about raising babies.

SEED PODS?! Hoyas grow SEED PODS?! Yikes! Just another tidbit I didn't know. Soooo, then, I'm assuming you just throw them in some dirt and voila!.....baby hoyas NOT from cutting??
Geeeesh, and all along I thought cuttings were the only way!

Right on Tami!!
FYI, here is an older thread where folks discussed getting those seeds to grow: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/551002/

Thanks Ann, that was me. I am all prepared, just waitting for it to burst. She is hanging on the light over the kitchen table, so I can keep a close eye on it.

Karen and Betsy, I new that they got seed pods, just never had one. Carol thinks maybe it self pollinated, I hope it crossed. I just hope I can grow them.

My fingers are so very crossed for you, Tami!!! Keep us updated on how it's going. Are you planning on keeping a journal?

Long Beach, CA

Shouldn't you put a nylon or something around it to keep the seeds from going everywhere when it bursts open? I really don't know anything about this, I just remember reading that somewhere about that's what they do.

Good idea, Marcy! Actually, when it starts to turn brown (which means that the seeds are mature and soon the pod with burst and let them "fly-be free"...if you put some scotch tape around the pod, you can catch them because the pod can't open...you will see the 'seam' of the pod open but the seeds with their little parachutes (like dandilions) are trapped. heh heh heh.

Don't be scared...you are really lucky. If these seedling can grow in the wild, be trampled, eaten, pooped upon, dug up and survive...think of your chances in Arizona!!!

Wow, I would have thought that was some weird growth, not a seed pod! That is going to be a great learning experience. Keep us up to date on the progress. Like you wouldn't, ha ha ha!
Heather

Gee, I hope you have some sort of cross. That would be so exciting!

Prescott, AZ

A journal would be an excellent idea. Just in case I ever get another one. Please everyone do keep your fingers crossed. I wonder how many seeds are in these pods? I'm sure a couple will live!!!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Tami I'll be on stand-by if you need help with the birth:-). I can get to Prescott in about 1.5 hours:-).

Oh Sandy that is right, I forgot about those, :{ remember you put them in the green house and I forgot all about them. I killed them...

So now about the scotch tape.. Does it go right in the middle of the pod. Or in the middle and on each end? I think Mel just said she had a pod on something. Mel what are you doing with yours?
