Happy Marriage Made in Hoya Heaven!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

DH-Bob called me from the road - he stopped at a Home Depot in a town about 2 hours from home. They had hoyas, and he bought me two!! (h. compacta and h. carnosa 'rubra' - already have them, but I'm not going to ruin his participation and gift!) He actually went in and ASKED if they had HOYAS!! Apparantly he's figured out that he'd better join 'um, 'cause he ain't gonna beat 'um! Looks like the marriage will be ok after all!! Hey - maybe I can get him to help me take the Fed Ex guy's picture.........Karen

Congrats! I have to beg my DH to let me "browse" through the plant section.
LOL.....

What a nice guy you have, Karen!!!

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

AAAAwwww! that's soooo sweet! He IS a nice guy ~ I KNOW HIM PERSONALLY! =)

Long Beach, CA

That really was a very nice thing for him to do. You are wise not to spoil it for him. Besides, now those particular plants will have special meaning for you and you will like them better than the duplicates.
Now that you have him "thinking hoya", you can probably talk him into putting up window ledges, hanging hooks, rods, etc for the plants in the house. Come summer...you may get him to build you something like Carol's "gutter" plant stand...or who knows...maybe even a GREENHOUSE.

Now I see why women get married. I need one of those husband thingies. Where does one go to get one? How much do they cost? What sort of maintenance is involved?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Wellllllllll, they don't get mealies, are impossible to propagate from cuttings, and usually demand (expect? deserve?) a lot of attention. They can cost nothing and cost your sanity...high maintenance sometimes...but wonderful to keep around. I am not giving mine up!!!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Carol, where did you buy yours? Is it a national chain? Can I order online? Do they come with money back guarantees and a waranty? (lol)

They're not for me, for sure.

Karen: you have a real keeper!

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

Ann, I think they have this show called Elimidate. That would probably be the perfect place to find a hubby. I think you get some prize out of it too. Not too sure about the return policy, LOL.....

Wow!! What a sweetie! You're a lucky woman!

My DH prolly wouldn't do *that*....but he puts up with the house full of plants during the winter and considers it part his responsibility to help me bring in the plants for the winter.....plus he's a pretty nice guy all in all.

MsKitty needs to know, Karen...... if your DH has a brother! lol!!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nan and MsKitty - DH does have brothers, but they're all spoken for - besides, not one of them holds a candle to my DH (awwwwww). He is a keeper! He and my BIL (BetsyJ's husband) - who, by the way, is also a keeper! - turned an old shed on our farm into a greenhouse for Betsy and I this summer. Although a wonderful thing for them to do, I do believe their motivation was to get the plants OUT of our houses!! But I'm sure not looking a gift horse in the mouth!! LOL!!!! Karen

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Well...we tried....now does BetsyJ's husband have a brother for MsKitty? (lol! j/k)

Now you'll have to get that DH of yours up to the computer screen to read this post....he'll *have* to know there's no affair in progress, after all!

So, are you going to pot your 'new' and 'old' hoyas together to make one BIG full plant of each? Or are they fair game for your new venture...(wasn't it either you or your sis who posted about a new 'venture' on the C&S forum?)?

Knoxville, TN

You are a lucky gal Karen! My DH built a greenhouse for me a couple years ago and I know that aside from being a sweetheart, he was motivated to move my plants out so he could put a pool table in the garage. Poor guy. Now I have the greenhouse so full you have to walk through side ways AND the garage is full of plants too.

How fun for you and Betsy to have such a nice space to fill with plants!!!
