I just got home from a short visit to my brother and his family and this is what I saw across from their house.

found in Mississauga and other pics.
Wow ....Carol some great stuff there, and still blooming!
Were the brugs in the ground?
I'm certain that the interesting looking plant is a type of amaranthus. Can anyone else confirm?
Ann
Can't for sure confirm, but I also think it is an amaranthus!
Sounds like you have been haivng some great weather out there Carol!
Glenda
Yes the brugs where in the ground and my bro said they had been there for many years. ( although he had no idea what they were) There was another one which was just in bud in one yard.
Yep thanks - Amaranthus it is - but it sure is an odd one isnt it?Could't pull the word out of my brain this morning which is still suffering a bit from 'jet lag'.I got home at 7pm ( l hour late) and had an agility class with Fancy at 845p.m. We did pretty well all things considered.

They're in the ground all year in my neck of the woods? Mississauga is in zone 6a and I'm in 5b, but the weather patterns are pretty much the same. Same cold, same snowfall, etc. I want to know what kind of brug that is. Maybe I can push its zone a little - or maybe its zone is already being pushed where it is now which is probably more likely :-( Oh well, I can still dream. --Ginny
Ginny I will send you a D-mail and tell you where they are - maybe if it is not too far away you could go check them out! My brother knows them and I could probably get the home owners names for you if you want?
carol
Beautiful picture of your roses, Carol. Does your brother by any chance live on Queen St. West? Because I know a person in Mississauga who lives on that street that has never left his brugs in the ground. He has always dug them up and overwintered in the house. If this person can overwinter them in the ground....he's amazing!
:) Donna
No Donna he does not live on Queen St.
At Ginny's request I am going to ask bro to ask neighbors if they know the variety names(there are at least two there) . If he finds out I'll post it here.
Perhaps it is an assumption on my part that they are left in the ground
just because they looked so big. But I really know nothing about brugs!
He can find out that info also.
carol
That would be great if he could find out. Also if the neighbour does what does he do to protect them. I really seriously doubt he does.....but you never now.
:) Donna
This looks like that amaranth, you think?

Absolutely - looks like a cross between an amaranth and a bombay celosia.
