New alocasia longloba hybrid

Louisville, KY

This should look pretty cool once it reaches maturity. I am hoping for a easy to grow alocasia that can get about 4 to 8 feet tall. Longloba can get around 3 to 5 ft tall and its mother plant can get about 15ft. It has a unique look to it and should be a great plant to grow for us who throw them out for the summers. It will probably make a fairly nice landscape plant in zones 8 and higher.

Many alocasias can reach 15 ft. Portei ordora macrorrhiza borneo giant portodora. The thing is were is it being grown. We had a 15ft macrorrhiza in the greenhouse years ago. It had no wind and plenty of good soil. Situation can make a world of difference.

I have trouble keeping longloba from going dormant.
One cool Fall evening w/ a minor temp drop and it goes.
How's this one for lower night temps?
