Hi All!!

This is my first time cutting back brugs....I am very nervous doing this.... I sanitized my clippers in boiling water, and have cut the leaves off....This is my no name pink I bought locally this spring....So far I have just taken all the leaves off....now for the hard part.....to do the cuttings....Yikes! ......Oh, another thing, I just noticed this on the trunk.....Is it anything bad?

Thanks for looking!!

WOW you really did strip it. LOL. I usually leave the growth tips on. But they leaf out again anyway.

The stems look OK to me. I usually cut them so I have a node on the bottom to root fast. I like to leave at least 3 nodes on each cutting. Though I have had 1 inch cuttings root. You will do fine!!!! Good luck!!

I was posting before you posted that close up. Check your nodes for any black. That is a dead giveaway. Yours almost looks like it got scraped. I would watch it and see if it spreads. SB usually is dried and indented in the center and has a blackened ring around it. But I do not know how it looks as it just starts.

I wasn't supposed to do the top??? LOL.....Sheesh.....I thought that would be okay....LOL....so you don't think that thing on the trunk is anything?

Thanks...:-)

I just did my Frosty Pink.....Is this better? LOL

In case you were wondering, these were in the ground in the smaller pots. But when we dug them up, they had to be put in these bigger pots so they wouldn't tip over....

LucyGoose--I plant mine in the soil as they can overwinter here in the ground, however they must be cut to just above the ground and mulched heavily. I can tell you, you do not have to be at all careful how much you cut back. It will come back two or three times bigger each time you cut it back!! I have had my Dr Suess for 2 years now--I got it as a small cutting-less than 1 foot tall. The first year is grew a single 5-6' stalk full of blossoms and several flushes, this year the very same plant cut back to the ground last Fall came back with no less than FIVE 6-8' stalks and has been going through flush after flush since June I think it was. It right this minute still has HUNDREDS of buds and many blooms!! So never fear!! So long as you keep it warm enough over winter it will reward you each each with ever larger flushes!! Bonnie
