Billbergia blooming again

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

This Bilbergia has pretty much gone non-stop since I received it from George at the SoCal roundup held at our ranch. It's really been a fun plant.

hiya MsCritterkeeper,

I've been told by a grower this is a wide-leaf B. nutans. It is indeed an easy one and I'm told it's quite hardy as well. There is some speculation as to whether this is indeed a nutans, but none the less it is a fun one.

Yes, there are a few different varieties of nutans around and all are beautiful. I have a wider leaf version and it is beautiful and easier to display than the thin leaf variety.
I love em for the beauty & blooms and think it's too difficult to keep up with exact IDs on most broms...lol

What is the difference between Bilbergia and Bromeliad?
Both are same?

hiya Kallem,

great to see you!

A bilbergia is a genus in the family Bromeliacea [sp?] They are all related to the Pineapple. There are dozens of genera and thousands of species/hybrids.
