I was sure the unopened buds would drop off my cuttings but they stayed on and are now open, not as big as when the tree was outside but the room smells heavenly.
Cuttings with buds are blooming
Wow! That's a bunch of flowers. I'll bet it does smell like heaven!
That one sure wanted to bloom for YOU :-)..looks great,
Brigitte
That is so cute :)
Very determined Brug. Good picture. LOL
kathy
Determined aren't they :)) Now that's what I call an air freshener !!
Margo
What a great room, Doris. You are a lucy duck to get that built so fast. I bet yoru brugs love it.
Unbelievable!! I cannot believe they are blooming! WOW!! Congrats!! Bonnie
Kell they do, and boy after last year I said I quit. Famouse last words hu, now I have just as many again.
When I went outside this morning there were four Brugs I had cut level with the ground, amazing, there are lots of new shoots already, so I covered with plastic, then with mulch that maybe, JUST MAYBE they will come up next year.
They are survivors, aren't they Doris? I bet they love you too and do not want to leave your yard for plant heaven. You are such a good brug mom.
Doris, I've been meaning to ask - how are your pods doing that you are growing in your GH (or that's what I thought I read you were doing). I'm going to have quite a few and I'm almost positive they will not have time between now and freeze to ripen. I'm not expecting anything, so I won't be disappointed, but I hate to go to the trouble if it just won't work...
Sherrylike, so far they are doing good, I have never had any befor so I don't know when they are ready, maybe someone can tell me, do they split, or get soft ? so fare mine are still hard and have grown some.
I hope you are successful in overwintering your Brugs outside. Doesn't seem likely though since the ground freezes to ice there. There MUST be a way though. Bonnie
I had pods last year but daddy was ill and the pods were neglected. Did you make a cutting with the pod on it and put it in water or a bubbler, or did you did the brug up and pot it. If you dug them up, too bad for my pods, the brugs are 11 or 12 feet tall. Hopefully, if you dug yours up, I'll have pods on smaller plants but it's getting pretty late. Thanks Doris!!!
Bonnie, that's how I started this 'game', over wintering my brug outside and both winters we've had several or more days/nights in the teens, sometimes for a week and, thus far, I've not lost one wintering in the ground. But, this could be the year, I do not kid myself that it cannot happen; however, my Upees have wintered in the ground for 8 years and come back bigger and better. I take special care in that I put two sacks of mulch on each brug, 4 cubic yds, and I pack it up in a mound. I have three Versis that made it last year. There are drawbacks to wintering in the ground - many of the brugs do not bloom as quickly. My Rosamond/PB just started blooming about a month ago, and oh how I had scolded them because they were so late - but oh how beautiful they are now, with blooms waving in the nice fall breeze, the blooms 10 -12 feet off the ground and the scent is heavenly. In order to have earlier blooms this year, I will start cuttings in pots, soon as they root and I have about 15 that will be ready in about a week. I'll start sitting them outside in the first sunny days in Feb or March and hopefully get buds and put them in the ground 15 minutes after Easter. Might not work, but I'm going to give it a go.............I forgot, as a precaution, I take cuttings of favorite/special brugs and put them in the bubbler for the winter...
I have a coup[le dug up and potted with buds, also have two cuttings in a bubbler.
What about pods Doris?? Do you have pods on cuttings in your bubbler??? Buds do nicely for me in the bubbler and just flower away, but I've never tried pods. Thanks!!!
SherryLike yes I have a pod on a cutting in the bubbler, don't know if it will mature but better than just tossing it.
That's good news Doris, thanks!! I was going to try it anyway but I'm glad to know that at least so far it's working for you...
