Hoya Kerrii - rooted leaf without steam....

Sundsvall, Sweden

Hi!
I want to know what your opinon/experience about this kind of kerrii "plant".
Is it possible that it will grow to a big plant or is it just going to be a heart...

Hi Maria,

I am currently doing a "science experiment" to find out. Most hoya lovers agree that you need some stem with a node on it to create new "branches". I have 3 leaves that I started in February. They are still sitting in their respective pots..... doing nothing. They are healthy, but have not grown anything at all. I'm going to leave them and see what happens, perhaps once they become root-bound something will happen, but I'm betting that we need to propigate them with some stem.

The Thais root H. kerrii all the time with leaf cuttings....but I'll be hanged if I know how to do it...I have had a 4" pot crammed with roots and no new growth - 2 years. Gave up....

I know I have a leave off a hoya that I placed in soil mixture last year and than put into a baggie. I've left it along and sometime in the summer it has finally rooted. I don't see any baby leaves yet but I think it will.

I have some friends who I gave a kerii to about 4 years ago, about a year after they broke a leaf off and rooted it. Three years later, it's still just a leaf. The nurseries around here (indoors) sometimes have two leaves rooted in a small pot for sell at valentines day. I've yet to see any of them put out any growth, but it is a cute idea.

Yeah, cute for their bank account, not so cute for someone who wants an actual plant! LOL
