transplanting?

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Are any of you transplanting right now-I think its great weather for moving plants and adding new ones and the rain helps keep them watered!
going out today and move a few roses!

what are you doing?

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

looking at the four pots of perennials that I've had since July and thinking they should get in the ground!! Supposed to be 70 tomorrow - maybe then.....

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm still digging up perennials from our city house and moving them to the AuGres house. The realtor said once we put it up for sale I can't take anything out of the yard. Just when I think I've got enough I find something else I can't leave. :) I also went to a bunch of nurseries and bought up ornamental grasses to plant around our new fish pond. I also transplanted about a hundred Rose of Sharon seedlings around the pond and up and down the road. I think they all took so far. Yippee!! I made sure to mulch everything well so it won't heave out of the ground with the winter freeze / thaw cycle.

Speaking of roses ...........I have one more (Chicago Peace) that I might dig up tomorrow. I'm also taking my shovel to work and digging up a Calcupta (sp?) tree seedling in the woods that I want (with permission). :)

I keep getting side tracked having to clean out closets and pack stuff to move. So boring. :) I'd much rather be working on the flowers. I still have to do fall cleanup at the city house. I'm actually hiring some help. I'm beat.

Weather has been great.

Transplanted a 8 foot Arborvitae today only 9 more to go, next week.

Deann,

I will go out tomorrow and look for some more seedlings. I'm sure there are still some out there. Good thing you wrote when you did as my garden guy is going to be chopping everything down by weekend I think. They sure are tough plants. I think every single one I planted "took". Should be pretty in a few years when they put on some growth and are blooming.

Beware of those sweet peas. They are monster peas that will take over everything. :) They have roots to China and are next to impossible to eradicate. :) I guess you have room for them to spread eh? :) :) :) Haahahaha

I also had the nightmare of the sweet peas, the more I yanked them, the more they grew..I don't know what was worse the snow on the mountain or them...It's a good thing I moved, but the couple that bought my house loves them, which is a good thing,I guess..

Loretta.....depends on your situation...I have a mound which is not quite a hill but its not flat either, and I have my pet grave sites there. I have creeping plants like snow on the mountain, snow in summer or sweet Allisum or creeping Phlox which I love as its great ground cover....I just yanked out a chunk to give to a friend who has a hill side she is trying to get stuff to grow on so it wond erode....

Deann,

Are you coming over for your pot of Rose of Sharon seedlings? They are still out front and looking like they really need to get in the ground soon. Let me know. I'm home all the time now so come any time.

If you like to grow roses the Downriver Rose Society meets in Brownstown.

I write the Dig It column in the Neews=Herald if you have anything for the garden calendar send it to me and I'll run it.

Hi Paul I always read your column in the paper.I'm not really into roses,I like them but don't have much luck with them..I do have a few of the mini ones, and have a fool proof rose ordered, that will be delivered in the spring,so I'll see what happens with this one..Thanks..
