Hi,
Another kind DG member sent me a few Brugmansia seeds last season which I never had time to plant.
Could someone please point me into the right direction so I won't fail ? I can't remember her DG name and what exactly her advice was ...sorry :-(
1.) Do I soak them ? overnight ? warm water ?
2.) Do I nick them ?
3.) How long will they take to germinate ?
THANK YOU so much in advance.Any information will be greatly and truly appreciated,
Brigitte
Brug Experts needed before my books arrive/Seed question
You can soak if you wish to peel them or plant them whole.
Nicking is not performed on brug seeds. They have a corky covering with a bean inside.
Germination rates can vary from days to months depending on the type and the seed's age.
Most seeds are good for at least 2 years, some longer.
i soak mine in little peroxide then plant cover pot in plastic germinates faster i think. i do not know much.. i have two now popping thru dirt..
Hi scooterbug and hope43 ,
Thank You BOTH for replying so fast.I did hear about peeling them now that you mentioned it Arlene.
A little dishearting news though that some of them can take months to germinate.
Arlene,how deep should I plant them ? covering the seeds with 1/4 - 1/2inch of soil ?

Hope43,
why are you soaking them in peroxide ? do you mean a water/peroxide solution ? what percentage ?
Thanks,
Brigitte
Did some research and found excellant information, but still would like to find out every ones preference,
Brigitte
I would plant them on moist, sterilized soil, unpeeled, and push them down to make good contact with it. Then put the pot inside a clear plastic bag and keep it at around 70 degrees or so. Normal house temps work fine for me. Light is good, but be careful not to cook the seeds. Definitely make the peroxide solution a 1-10 solution.
