any DGrs going? This is a swap organized by Plantmeet.com, and it is a wonderful event. I have been to it 2-3 times. A lot of swapping and a lot of visiting and a lot of fun. go to www.plantmeet.com for details.n Our our Moodene (Nadine) is part of the organizing group. Some people arrange pre-trades thru Gardenweb, but pretrades are not necessary. There's always lots of plants for on the spot trading. Food is always fantastic also.
Great opportunity for DGers to gather, meet and make new plantaholic friends.
Maggie, I'm talking to you...
Plant Swap at Mercer Arboretum-Oct 29th
Nery!! I was just thinking that I have to go to this! I really, really don't want any plants (does that sound crazy?), but I would love to go and meet. Would it be okay if I show up with nothing and refuse to take anything home? :-)
(I'm re-working my beds after a summer of neglect and lost plants, don't know for sure what or where I'm going plant. I still have a bunch of stuff from Dallas, drdon and his DW Pamtannia are coming the first week of Nov with a bunch of stuff, and then there's the Central TX RU the second weekend in Nov. Ack!)
edited to correct spouse gender, sheesh!

Oh yeah that would be fine, Miss Maggie. There is a lady that comes from Galveston and brings a truckload of gingers, oleanders and I don't remember what else. She never takes anything home. This is her thinout time and she has great plants.
This event is fast becoming a reunion, so there is as much visiting as there is swapping. I only have a few things I plan to take, contribute some pop and talk my head off.
other DGrs: this is a great event, weather will be perfect, food is great, plant selection is awsome. I'm going to wear my DG shirt and I'll be the one talking 1,000 wpm, LOL.
One more thing, if you go to Gardenweb, TX forum, click on the exchange tab and you'll find a thread for Mercer Swap pretrades. This is not necessary, but if you have your eye on something specific, it is great. One time I found a rainbow plumeria grown from seed and it is doing so fabulous! Another time, I found a meyer lemon tree for a fellow DGr.
PS: I don't like GW, but I'm mentioning it only because I want you to get an idea of what goes on at the swap.
It's a date! I'll wear my DG shirt too, and I'll have a red rose tucked behind my left ear. (grin)
It sounds really wonderful!
LOL..I am not sure I will be there this coming fall plant swap due to driving a school bus on weekend field trips..We are short of drivers as well..so I know I will end up driving somewhere..after Thanksgiving I will no longer have to drive them..sheeze...wish it was this time around..so I will miss ya'll this time around but will be there for the spring swap...so ya'll have a good time if I am not there...
I will be at Daisy's house this coming Saturday for a very fun day-playing with new brugs and plants!!!!...Yahoo...no trip that day!!!
Nadine
vossner,
I am thinking about attending but read there is only dedicated space available. Whom might I contact to add my name to the list if that is possible at this point.? Thank you very much.
Carol
for clarification purposes, the reservations are for the few tables located in the pavillion. Since there are several trees in the area, what several people do is bring a card table to place by a tree and display their plants, etc. People w/o tables simply place their plants on the ground. Otherwise, no reservations are necessary. People sign up to bring food, prizes for the drawying, and I think www.plantmeet.com has the info on how to go about doing that.
I suggest you drive all the way to the loading area, unload your plants and then go park. If you come alone, just ask anybody to watch your stuff while you park. I also suggest you bring a chair, paper/pen to exchange info and a wagon to carry your new plants back to the parked car.
If the weather continues to be as lovely as it is today, the swap will be the best ever. Hope this helps.

Vossner,
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
carol
Vossner,
I'm looking forward to this Saturday! What time do you expect to get there? Where do we park? (Every time I've been to Mercer has just been a regular day, parked right at the entrance. I suspect there will be more cars than parking spaces in that small lot.)
Flowerette, will you be there? Can you wear a homing device so we can find you, lol?
Hi Maggiemoo,
Missed meeting ya at Maas. Hopefully, will make the Mercer swap. I'll be wearing a "burple" (purple) shirt with a white visor, pulling my red heavy hauler with the homing device tucked therein. Just holler, and I'll put it in high gear.
Carol
Flowerette, you simply MUST get you a daves t-shirt one of these days. I will be wearing mine. My plan is to get there at 9 am, 9:30 at the latest. DH will be coming w/ me because following the swap we will be driving to our property in Dew, TX.
Miss Maggie, the swap is in the park area, not the gardens area (where they have the sales). It will be easy to find your way by following the cars. If you are taking a big amount of plants, I suggest you drive all the way to the pavillion and unload. ask somebody to watch your load (they will do so happily) and go park. The whole thing will just take minutes but it will save you from making multiple trips. If you have none or a few items, then, just park and follow the other plantaholics. I keep my purse hidden in the trunk and bring some paper to exchange info. wear a sweater, brrrrrrr.
there will be plenty of food and refreshments. here is my CP: 281 344 7155
there is NO WAY on this earth that I'm posting the pic of me and Maggiemoo. I look like a frog about to explode! LOL
I was delighted to meet M. She is as authentic in person as she is in her postings and we talked about this and that. Also visited with Flowerette, who arrived after Maggie had left.
The swap wasn't as well attended as previous ones. Could have been the gas price situation, or maybe Rita's devastation of people's plants. However, I did make like a bandit, with roses, boxwoods, herbs, succulents, and a lovely, lovely cleredendrum, a gift from Jerry from Jerry's Jungle. Here is a pix of him and wife, talking shop w/ Maggie.
Nery!!
It was soooo good to meet you! And that picture sure doesn't do much for me, either, lol! We'll blame it on your DH, since he isn't here to defend himself (snicker.) Really, I'm so glad I got to talk with you, and your DH too, and your sweet little DD (dear dog, lol.) How do you spell his name? Puddy?
The setting was great, and it was neat to see Jennifer again (a bunch of us met her at the Austin nursery date.) I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer and get to meet Flowerette. It was fun to meet Jerry (THE Jerry, of Jerry's Jungle that we've all been talking about!) and I also met a woman from Conroe, and I wandered into the woods with someone called Conroe Joe so he could show me an American Holly. :-)
Even though I didn't take anything with me, and didn't even want anything, people insisted on giving me plants and cuttings to take home. Gardeners are the most generous people! I'm looking forward to the next swap at Mercer, in March. Maybe I'll be better prepared then, I will definitely stay longer. They were just starting to grill as I left, and it smelled good!
Nery, thank you so much for inviting me to this!
Nery, nice meeting ya at Mercer and thanks for the card. That's really neat to exchange; every gardener needs one.
Maggiemoo, sorry I missed ya. Didn't get to wear the 'color purple', so maybe that's why you didn't notice me. I looked around for Dave's shirt and finally saw Nery.
I won't be able to make the Kerrville trip. My DH is headed up there to our property as hunting season opens tomorrow, and he always takes his family for opening day.
You all take care and have fun in the "rock" country.
Carol
Oooo, that's right! I meant to tell everyone that Nery's DH ordered some free "business" cards for her from vistaprint.com. I'll try to remember to take a picture and post it when I get home, it's very pretty, and lists Nery's title as "Gardener". I love it! It's a great way to give people your contact info.
Sorry to miss you, Carol, both at the Mercer swap, and at the RU. Do you think you'll go to the March swap?
Maggiemoo,
I am definitely anticipating the March swap.
carol
