When is the latest that bulbs can be planted in Northeast Texas? My husband and I want to plant some in our garden this year. We got online, adn printed out an article, listing the bulbs that are supposed to grow best here, but I just realized that it's the middle of October, and I'm afraid we might have waited too late. Have we?
Bulbs?
Jdee you might go to Old House gardens website. They give a chart on the correct times to plant different kinds of bulbs. Here is their website addy: www.oldhousegardens.com
Good luck!

Be sure to check with your local extension office, too. They can tell you the times for your area. Down here most Spring bulb planting is between now and Thanksgiving.
Between now and Thanksgiving here too.
Thank so much. I think Keller is close enough for our planting time to be the same. We're about 100 miles NE of Dallas.
So does the "between now and Thanksgiving" rule apply to "plant in the fall" bulbs or "plant in the spring"? It's almost 80 degrees today and it's November! So I don't really know if plants think it is fall or what. I noticed today some of my bulbs are coming up (either narcissus, jonquil, or paperwhites, there are several varieties in the same bed).
I'm in North Dallas and have some clematis I never got around to planting, and was wondering with the weather so warm, if it might be OK to go ahead and plant them. If not, would they still be usable in the spring?
I did look at the old house gardens link but didn't see clematis listed.
I'm relatively new to Dallas (moved a few years ago from Memphis) and a terrible procrastinator to boot, so I always seem to be planting things at the wrong time. I think I need a gardening mentor!
Plant in Spring bulbs shouls wait until after Christmas. Clematis should be fine - its quite hardy, and will need its roots down to bloom next year.

Thanks for the info.
