CLOSED: HAVE: Canna Lily Seeds

Chapel Hill, NC(Zone 7a)

I have several packs of canna lily seeds. These seeds are viable, and the parent plants have salmon colored blooms. However, since they are seeds, and snitched (with permission) seeds at that, it is not known whether they are going to grow true to their parent.

Have fun! Experiment! You know you want one.

Shipping 20 seeds/package. Will trade or SASE. Up to you. Start them before last frost and they will bloom your first year.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I want some. BTW they will NOT grow true to their parent. But they are so much fun to grow.
Do you want a SASBE? Can send it out tomorrow.

How difficult are canna seeds to start ?
Even though I startet 60+ Daylilies from seed and the plants are doing GREAT I have not had any luck with canna's last year.
Would be interested in a small amount if you have enough,
Brigitte

Brigitte-

They are Easier than Marigolds!...(lol)...Seriously.
Just Put Them in Individual 3"-6" Pots(1" Deep) Late This Fall. Leave Them Out in the Weather All Winter and Next Spring When the Temps are Right They Will Germinate. They are Great Using the Winter Sowing Methods.
I Threw 3 Canna Seeds Out this Past Winter on Top of an Unplanted Bed with All My Seeds I Had Vacuumed Off the Floor. They All 3 Germinated!...And are Now 3 Foot Tall...No Blooms but there's Next Year.

Brigitte, I just nick the seeds or file them until I see a white spot. I start them in containers indoors about February and they bloom mid summer. You will be addicted once you see how quick and easy they are.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

ZZTopsoil,
easier than Marigolds I can handle..hahaha...NO REALLY ? they are that easy ?? HAVE to try them now.Planting them outside in my region is probably not a good idea,I am 4 zones behind you .

Michele,
DO I HAVE to wait until February ...LOL...I better ,have too many DL seeds to sow.AHHHHHHHH ANOTHER Addiction ..hmmmmmmm I just got bitten by the Brugmansia and Datura bug,
Happy gardening to both of you,
Brigitte

If You do it the 'Winter Sowing' Way.
You Don't Even Half to Nick Them.
The Colder the Zone...The Easier it Will be to Winter Sow.

Mars Hill, NC(Zone 6a)

I too would like the seeds if available. Let me know the SASE.
Thanks

Okay, so I got some SASEs in the mail, and I figure they have to belong to someone. While I am going to pack and ship them off, I wanted to make sure I communicated with the owner that they arrived safely. If you've sent me some without tagging it with your User ID, could you please drop me a DMail with your first name (or the first name of the return address label that you used) just so I can know that they have been claimed. Thanks!

Okay, final harvest of seeds is in for the year and I've got enough requests for them that they are all taken.

Next year the same plants will have produced seeds again, so if you want to start making claims on seeds not yet produced, I'll be sure to save you a packet (and we can work out the trade details at that time).

I just wanted to give those people who didn't get any canna seeds this year a sense of certainty that they will get some next seed harvest.
