Cutting Boards or Cutting Blocks??

I think my problem is called trying to close the barn door after the horses have already gotten out.

Now that I have some good new knives and some sharpened older ones I realize that I don't have a good cutting board or block. Before I get all bothered and buy something I don't need or won't use I would like your input on what is best.
