I heard cayenne pepper. Any one know of other ways? Thanks, Jill
how do you keep the squirells from digging up your bulbs?
plant them deeper, squirrels only go down a couple of inches at best.

I plant a daffodil bulb in every hole. And a few extra daffodils around between other things. The squirrels don't eat daffodils, and you get double the flowers with half the digging.
Thanks both of you, here I have my daffodil bulbs covered with newspapers, good tips!
I spray with Ropel usually but this year tried DEER OUT ..I figure if it works with deer it will work with voles and squirrels etc. We shall see.
Squirrels wont touch the daffodils.
I think we are talking about tulips
Levilyla--Yes, but you put the daffodils on top of the tulips and the squirrels won't dig them up.
I have never tried that..does it really work? I have planted them NEAR each other and it doesn't work.
Yes, it does work. I have been doing it for several years. You just put the daffodil bulb into the same hole. I also plant extra daffodils kind of around the edges of the bulb patch. I've not lost a bulb since. My neighbor told me about it and it's so much easier than the wire cages and some of the other solutions I've heard. I don't have moles to worry about, so don't know if it works for them, but it sure deters squirrels.
My grandfather taught me to be very, very careful not to let any of the loose bulb papery wrappings escape to the ground. He said it was like advertising to the squirels that you had just hidden a treat for them. :) I have followed this advice for years and although I have a terrific population of squirrels, I have never had a bulb dug up.

sterhill--I've never heard that before. It sure makes sense, though.
