The people who are trialing Orange King for me did not have any luck with their plants developing this great orange color. I guess that I have been lucky, because mine has developed the great orange color. I contribute that to my cooler temps, that my trialers did not have earlier this year.
Vicki, I hope and pray that yours will look like this when your weather cools off.
Orange King - Lookin' Good!!
It sure is pretty, David. I love the long tendrils. Orange is rare, isn't it? I don't think I've seen an orange before. But then again, it seems like there's something new everytime I look. One of these days I gonna have to make like a bee and get out the paintbrush.
Thank you Angela. Orange is not that rare in brugs. The thing is, everybody went an a "pink" kick for awhile when hybridizing, nothing wrong with that. I like all colors, this is a cross between Tropical Sunset x Whiskers. That is where this brug got its long tendrils from.
I just hope that next year we see some orange color in it all season long.
These plants are so interesting, David. I was just looking at another posting of your Orange King posted previously and it was much lighter. Do they darken on the same flowers, or is it later in the season? Whiskers does have great tendrils. That was my very first Brug and really the only one that has bloomed for me so far ~ I am in love!
I'm sure many factors such as temperature play a part in flower color, but I wonder how soils affect the coloring? (Like acidic soil making Hydrangeas blue). Do you think that contributes to coloring?
Angela, this darker bloom is one that opened a couple of weeks later than the earlier post.
You are right about there being many factors that influence bloom color. These would include, but are not limited to all these factors: amount of sunlight, soil ph, temperature, humidity, fertilizer, softness or hardness of water, etc.
I love the color David. I have been thinking of working on some oranges.
Wow, I love this one but then Tropical Sunset is one that I could stand and watch all day long....and adding whiskers is making it perfect...Judy
Me too David. I love orange! :) I expect that come December or January the color will turn to orange here. It should make a great winter brug. With my luck we will probably have the worst freeze in 100 years this winter and I'll never see another OK flower of any color ... rofl
Simply stunning! I do love that deep color!
Vee8ch, don't even say that!!!!! Keep all those positive thoughts for this MILD winter LOL
That's great color. It temps control the color on OK, then I may never get to see an orange bloom here from mine. We go from hot to way too cold very quick. We are already past a couple of good frosts, so all the brugs are done here. When is your first frost date expected, David? I'm so glad she went orange for you.
thats beautiful!!!!!
Vicki, you better not talk like that. I so much want you to see this brug with its deep orange color.
Shirley, where I live we can get a killing frost anywhere from late September to late October. On the average though we have our first frost by the middle of October. So there is not much time left in our growing season. But looking at Accuweather's 15 day forecast, there are no temps in sight that would indicate us having a frost in that time frame. And am I ever glad of that, I am not ready to bring them in yet.
It is so pretty, David. Great job. I know you were really hoping this one would be a winner and it seems it is.
I like to the color. Bright golden yellow and Orange has always been my favorite color.
Wonderful color.
Love the color and I hope others who are trialing it will eventually get to see that lovely orange color.
Ok David and Laurrie .... I am positive that it is possible I will get a hundred year freeze! ... rofl!
How's this for a track record so far?
My family has lived in this part of Florida since 1974. In all those years hurricanes just never happened around here. And then I move here in 2004 and this area has hurricanes galore.
In 1988 Ellis and I moved back to this part of Florida from Colorado. We had the worst freeze here that I've ever seen. It killed giant Norfolk Island pines.
So .... I expect just about anything to happen weatherwise to thwart my dreams of tropical beauty! lol! Plant Paradise is an illusion!
OH NO, I do suppose it is possible, considering I was flooded out in Jan. of this year, last time was in 1969!!!!! I should have stayed in town huh? LOL, well if you get that dreaded hundred year freeze, you best keep it down there!!!! LOL
I am not liking that track record so far, you wanna come stay with me for awhile LOL ;)
David i love the color orange you should see my orange shirts a very bright and joyful color congrats. BOB
