Need help with seed pods

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I just noticed that three of my crosses took. These are on large plants in the ground and there isn't time for them to mature before frost, and they are my first ever crosses. Should I try to dig and pot up the entire plant so the pods will keep growing. If I take large stems cuts and root them in my bubbler, will I probably lose those pods? Any help will be much appreciated.

How cold will it get, Patricia? If it doesn't freeze, they should be okay in the ground with just a cover over them if frost threatens. Mine mature in the garage without much light and very cold temps. Here the cold is constant.

We get down around 30 degree's in the winter. I am just not sure how long it takes them to mature. But that probably won't happen until later in the winter I hope. My knightii is about 8 ft. tall so I won't be able to dig that one. I crossed it with Susanne and I couldn't believe it when I saw the pod. The other's crosses are on my Golden Lady, I might be able to dig that one and put it in the garage.
I crossed Golden Lady with Suzanne and also Vixen.

Lots of pods are ready to pick in three months. Depending on how long they have been on the plant, you might be able to pick before the cold hits. I've picked a couple of pods so far, but they were pollinated very early this summer and picked in late Aug.

It has been down to 30 here and my plants have blackened leaves, but the blooms will go ahead and open. I hope you don't lose the pod on Knightii. Good luck with them. Maybe the weather will be nice to you.

So you think if I cut that branch and water root it I will lose the pod?

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, I will do whatever I have too to keep that pod alive. Even if it means
covering the plant and putting christmas lights in there to keep it warm.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That would work. I'm sure you could cut it off and root it, but sometimes things are hard to root and it could go south on you. I don't think I would try it on something you really want to save.

Thanks for your advice Shirley. I have made up my mind that it will stay in the ground.

Now I'll be anxious to hear how it goes for the pod. I hope it stays on and provides you with some nice double pinks.

Congrats and best of luck with keeping this one alive :)

Good luck, Patricia. Some of our winters can be mild and not really drop too low until January/February. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will ripen in time.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I am hoping that happens this year, but the last two years we have had a few day's of frost in Nov. What I am really worried about is that I am going out of the country from Oct. 23rd. through the 2nd of Nov. If nothing happens before then, I will feel alot better.

If it does start cooling down, those xmas tree lights sound like a good idea! What we won't do for our plants!

Patricia, I have pods on Rosamond, who roots if you look at her and if the pods aren't ripe by the first hard frost, I'm going to put her limbs in a bubbler and see what happens, nothing to lose - I will leave some pods out and cover them and see how that works too, but RD is easy...

Sherry, That was what my first thought was, but since these are my first crosses. I don't want to take a chance with them. It sure seems like they are growing so slow.
