What would you do?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

I have a alpinia purpurata (red ginger) but it is the "elieen mcdonald" which is pink.

My tropicals book has this to say about it at the end of the red ginger.

"Eileen McDonald, pink ginger, is somewhat smaller. It is not know if this form is a cultivar or a natural variation collected in the wild"

It does show a picture that says alpinia purpurata "Eileen McDonald".

So the question is would you enter it in plantfiles under red ginger and ask that eileen mcdonald be added to the name and ask to add the color pink to the flower.

Or would you ask that eileen mcdonald be recognized as its own species.

The photo I am attaching is of a flower that was on its last leg and I don't think I can snag a pic off the internet to show without permission.

Please let me know your thoughts.

You could always list it as a cultivar in it's own entry to keep the other entry(ies) clean. Usually named cultivars have their own entry anyway. If in doubt, you can click the "contact us" link at the bottom and one of the admins will steer you the right way. :)

If you just want to post a pic here, you can. Just give credit for the photo whenever possible. As far as the PF goes, I believe you have to write to the owner and ask for permission. Many don't mind you using their photos so long as credit is given for the shot.
