Did you give me a start of this at GARU Oct 2003? If so, please tell me what it is and what to do with it.
Hi weeds
The top 2 pics look like night blooming cereus which I know Connie has....she'll probably jump in to confirm or deny.
Hey both of you gals!
Yeppers and it is indeed night blooming cereus. Glad the dang things are growing great! I am happy to know that the violet trumpet vine seeds do germinate! I have never tried them from seed. Gotta a green thumb there girl!
Connie
Hi Connie, I don't think I knew your name. Tell me how to care for the cereus. They have to be pretty old before they bloom, don't they? What about those two growths coming off one of the (what are they called?)
The Violet trumpet is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see a bloom on that one. I'll keep it in the gh over winter. Do you think it is hardy enough to go in the ground next year?
Thanks for the info.
Linda
Hmmm, now that I think back, I am not sure I gave you the cereus??? Just can't remember as I have CRS. I do have several and one is huge...about 6ft and has had at least 5 five blooms at a time about 3 times so far. I have had it about 4 years. Not sure how long they take to bloom as my uncle gave me mine so don't know how old it was when I got it.
Oh, wait a minute....I got a peach one at that very same swap from Azalea! Could yours be a peach one? That one is growing great but has not bloomed yet. Maybe they are siblings?
I don't know what you call the growths but they will have roots all over. Can just break them off and stick them in the ground and viola, new plants!
I did send you the seeds though...and yes, it will prolly be ready for the ground next spring. Mine has been on a fence for years and has never even browned any from the cold and we have had some. They bloom early spring.
You're right, I think it was Azalea. There's writing on the piece I stuck in the dirt, but I can't read it (because it's in the soil). What kind of fertilization should I use and what schedule? Should I treat it like my christmas catcus (basically ignore it)?
LOL, yep....that is what I do to mine! It is lucky if it gets some water!
Linda, Is your trumpet vine the Clytostoma calystegioides? I have a young one that does fine outdoors but it is warmer here than in Cola. There is one in Beaufort that grows on a trellis on one of the old homes and it goes up 3 stories. Quite spectacular in April.
alice
Hi Alice, I love Beaufort and St Helena Island. I'm usually there 2 or 3 times a year.
Connie has the plant that she sent me a seed pod of. It hasn't bloomed for me yet, this is it's first year and it's only about 3ft. Maybe Connie can post the photo that she showed when I got my seed pod. I'm really looking forward to it blooming.
Hi...here is the PF link for blooms
