Styrofoam okay with goldfish?

So. Puget Sound, WA(Zone 8b)

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I have some flat pieces of styrofoam from deliveries and have the bright idea of floating them on the pond to give the fish something to hide under to replace the plants I just took out. I think that would be okay but thought I better check to be sure there isn't something toxic to fish in styrofoam.

yea its ok :)

At one of the local nurseries that sells koi, they float large pieces of styrofoam in the tank just for the purpose you described. Great minds think alike!

Wow! I think that's the first time I've been accused of having a great mind. LOL Actually, I'm just poor and cheap. Err, frugal, yeah frugal.

Frugality begets creativity! Right?

In our pond I used a child's size hoolua hoop with a piece of shade cloth wired on the top. I tied a string to keep it in the center area where I wanted it. Worked like a charm.

Sheila! Great idea! It's supposed to get really windy this weekend and I may lose my styrofoam. I better get the pond net pegged down, huh? Busy, busy.

Great idea!

Wonder if you can attach some cheap silk fern or other tropical leaves on them to make them look prettier. Might help weight them down for wind resistance........
When they look unsightly just add new ones

Might need to experiment to get a good balance.......

Crested, are you speaking of the styro or the hoop? The hoop is heavy enough that it stays in place. It really doesn't look bad, and can be taken out quickly if you are taking pictures or showing off your pond.
