I bought this plumie several years back and it was suppose to be 'Lei Rainbow'! I don't think it's a 'Lei Rainbow'!!! I don't even need to think, because it's quite obvious it's not. If anyone has a clue, I'd sure appreciate it!
Thanks,
Randy
Help! I need help identifying this plumie! Thanks!
Thanks, Clare. I'm just mad, because I paid for a 'Lei Rainbow' and it's not! I bought it from a reputable nursery in Houston. I guess their not that reputable!!
You know, I may have bought it before the nursery started labeling all their plumerias on the trunks.
They had truoble for a few years. People were coming in and switching tags on the plumerias, so they wouldn't have to pay the premium price for a named plumeria!
Towards the end of the the summer at the nursery, the plumeria area was in shambles!! About half of the plumerias didn't have tags on them at all!
I guess I'll just make up a name for it.
Thanks,
Randy
Hi Randy, I don't blame you for being mad. I would be mad too. It looks like it could be a seedling of Celadine. That's too bad about the nursery going downhill like that. They should have been more on top of it and not let that happen.
If you still want a "Lei Rainbow/Nebel's Rainbow," Florida Colors is very reliable, and you can get a cutting for $15 or a grafted one for $18. Here's a link: http://www.floridacolors.com/ I have one, but it is too soon to cut it.
Yeah, I know. It's not like the nursery is cheap by any means!!! Most of their plumerias in 3 gallon containers sell for $25.00-$40.00 and up!!! They even carry hard to find rooted plumerias like, 'Lava Flow", 'Texas Aggie', and 'Bill Moragne Sr.'.
I went to a nursery today that is the most exclusive nursery in Houston for rare and hard to find plants.
They are pretty pricey on the plants, but their all in really good health and have a knowledgable staff.
I went to look for a particular succulent/cacti, but wound up buying four rooted plumerias in 1 gallon containers!!! LOL!! They just happen a 50% off sell going on for all rooted plumerias. I went crazy and bought more than I should've. I paid $11.50 each for a 'Scott Pratt', 'Grove Farm', Donald Angus, and 'Katie Moragne'.
Thanks, for the link! I've visited that website before. I just never bought any plumerias from there. I should at those prices!!!
Clare, have you ever heard of these two plumerias before, 'San Pedro De Luc' or 'Nancy Aimes'?
I saw like 5 or 6 plumerias that I've never heard of before.
Thanks again,
Randy
Nice purchase there, Randy! You scored on those named cultivars for 50% off. I would have done the same. Scott Pratt is an awesome dark red, and Grove Farm has a great fragrance. The other two are wonderful also. Brad might have a picture of Katie Moragne if he sees this. He is collecting Moragnes and loves them. He has a Mary Moragne that is spectacular.
Is this Botanic Treasures that you went to? I have not had a good experience with Botanic Treasures by mail order, but if you can walk in and pick out plants and if they are on sale, then that would be ideal.
I really like Florida Colors. They are very reasonable and their products are of excellent quality. They are one of only a couple of sources that I will buy from these days.
Nancy Ames is a seedling created and developed by Florida Colors. According to their publication, it is a 3" light pink with bright pink edges and sells for $35 as a grafted plant. San Pedro du Lac is a varietiy found and named by Florida Colors Nursery, and it is a huge 4.5" white with yellow center adn it sells for $15 a cutting. I don't know about the fragrance of Nancy Ames, but the fragrance of San Pedro du Lac is mild and not very strong. I've seen a mature tree of San Pedru du Lac, and the flowers are so huge and make a stunning display.
Okay--I couldn't omit Bill Moragne Sr., now could I? LOL My only complaint is the doggone rain this season has beaten the heck out of what would have been a MONSTEROUS inflo. Every time several beagn to open at once--here came the rain to thin them out. :-( This inflo was so BIG it was amazing. I hope next year it will bloom during a dry spell for a real dramatic picture as this variety has one of the largest flower clusters of all plumeria. Here's what is left of it.....
Randy,
Try Florida Colors Nursery----you won't go wrong. If you don't want grafts, you can order nice cuttings to root yourself. If you get one you are afraid to root because it's a rare variety, Luc will charge you a few bucks ($4-5) to graft it for you and, other than that, only charge you the postage to send it back when it is ready.
Brad
LOL! Thanks for answering my call:-) Oh, my, my, my, Brad. Your pictures are awesome! How is the fragrance of Bill? I think I'm going to need Mary and Bill at some point:-) Fantastic!
Yeah, it's a bummer that you can't load more than one picture per post, but you get used to it. At least there doesn't seem to be much of a size limitation compared to the other place!
Clare,
Interestingly enough. Bill Moragne Sr. smells strongly of grape cool-aid! LOL
Katie--arrgggh--I can't remember at the moment. LOL
That is interesting! I'm going to send you an email.
