Allium bulbs

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Do any of you grow these? How hard are they to grow? I think I'm in zone 7. I'm in Raleigh, North Carolina and am thinking of ordering one of these bulbs.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

I grew them last year. I'm near Charlotte, only a little warmer than you. They grew just fine. I actually decided I didn't like them though. I even dug them up and traded them off this spring. You need the right kind of garden for them to look good. I thought mine looked a little too sloppy and unkept. But they grew fine.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I dont know how bulbs do in warmer zones (do they get the long cold time in winter most need?) but I am in 3A and have lots of bulbs, alliums included. They do well here.

Morehead City, NC(Zone 8a)

Alliums should grow well in your Raleigh garden. I am in Morehead City (zone 8a) and have had alliums in my garden for several years. They have grown quite well. I do not chill them like I do tulip bulbs, just plant them in the ground in Nov or Dec after we have had a few nights in the lower 30s ( I have even planted bulbs as late as Jan or early Feb and they have done fine here.) My daughter lives in Apex and I am in the Raleigh area frequently--always looking at yards and gardens as I/we drive around. I am sure that I have seen alliums in yards in Raleigh. If you do decide to plants some alliums, I hope they grow well for you.
