Gladiolus digging.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Time to dig gladiolus. They have most of them done. We use the potato digger for most, but this patch doesn't have enough room around it to use it.
Very good year for bulbs. They are huge & lots of them. Should make for some really nice flowers next year. Some are over 3" across.

CountryGardens, so how many glads do you grow? Are you a commercial grower? I have just a few, and they are almost gone. Loved them this year.

Great... going to show piles of curing bulbs?

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We have lots. According to my records, we cut 5449 stems, & sold 776 bunches of flowers. We put mostly 6 stems to a bunch, sometimes 7 or 8 if they are small. Our biggest one day picking was 74 bunches, & sold them all. As far as I know we covered 3 weddings this season. One lady buys for charity things. I know she bought glads for 2 different events & small pumpkins for another. She is very wealthy, but I still give her a deal because she is such a good customer. She also holds the record for life on a bunch of glads. She always gets 7-8 days, one bunch lasted her 10 days. The last 2 days she had the top flowers in a rose bowl!
Glads are fun!
Darius, I never thought to get a picture of the bulbs. Maybe tomarrow.

These are ones we keep separate & also keep all the little bulbettes to increase amount of these colors. Each one was 25 bulbs I bought in spring of 2004.
Some are doing well!

More of the separate colors, although 3 colors in this bunch started as 500 each. We have more of these to dig yet.

Wow, Bernie, that's more impressive that seeing rows in the fields!

I find that my pinks, lilacs, and whites are more enduring than my reds, oranges, purples, and yellows.
