It's A Little Early, But.....

I need some suggestions conserning Christmas trees and cats.

Last year was our first holiday season without my Mom. My husband and I decided that, since I'm a full time housewife, and have more time to plan than my sisters, we'd get together at our house. At the time, I only had three cats, and they didn't bother the tree itself. I was sure to hang unbreakables on the bottom branches, no tinsil, and I never left the lights on when we were sleeping or away from home. The only trouble I had with these three cats had to do with the tree skirt. One would burrow under it, while the other two would attack the "lump" moving around. lol This problem was easily solved when gifts were wrapped, and put under the tree. I arranged the larger, heavier ones to where they held the edges of the skirt down. Except for some minor problems, my cats were overall, good with the tree.

Now I have a problem. Morty. We just got him in August. He's now 5 months old, and loves to climb. I'm even thinking of taking down the blinds, so I have no idea how we're going to have a tree this year. On one hand, I'd rather just skip it until he's a little older and calmer, but on the other hand, I'm a big kid when it comes to Christmas. I fight depression constantly, and the Christmas season always seems to cheer me up. Also, since we've started the new tradition of getting together over here, I hate to not have a Christmas tree. *sigh*

DH says that we can have the tree, and just put plastic ornaments and satin balls on it. Does anyone have some suggestions? What would you do?
