I wonder if Oleander fits this catagory. I have tried to root cuttings of this from bushes I have seen in the area without luck. Any tips?? I like the dark red one-anyone happen to have rooted cutting, seedling, whatever?? (Worth a shot to ask!!)

Oleander
Bonnie, it's one of those that roots better when it's hot. I've tried cuttings several times, and the ones taken in the fall never rooted. The only time that I've been able to root them was in the summer.
Next summer, put several cuttings in a one gallon pot, and keep it in a shaded spot until you start seeing some growth from the top. If you have several cuttings in the same pot, you have a better chance of getting at least one of them to root!
I would love to have the dark red, too! Is it fragrant? I'm trying to limit myself to only getting fragrant oleanders (a girl has to set SOME limits!).
Thanks for the tips--and I have no idea if it is fragrant or not. Just happen to notice one bush at the bank coming through the driveway and there is one next to KFC. You have fragrant ones? What colors? Tell you what, next Summer, I will get a whole bunch of cuttings from both bushes and if I can root two I will share with you (assuming I remember of course!! hehehe)!! Bonnie
Well, if you remember, remind ME, and I'll try to start some cuttings from mine! I have a single pink, double pink and double yellow that are fragrant. I also have another double that isn't fragrant at all, that is colored like a peace rose. It's mostly cream color with a little bit of peachy pink in the shade, and mostly peachy pink if it's in the sun. I especially like the fragrant ones because they are most fragrant when it's HOT, and we have alot of that in the summer! Most of the other fragrant plants that I have are only fragrant at night.
Thanks!! Bonnie
Yup this is one I am looking for! Sooooo pretty!! Bonnie
