It's late im bored might as well bombard the forum with photos of plants at the aroid show.
Some of these I now own many were to die or at least kill for.
Well if your not familar with this plant shame on you. This is an amazing Anthurium with velvet leaves. The leaves can get as big as 4 feet long and wide. Maybe I should post a pic of one that large. But to see this many forms in one place amazing.
More form my aroid show trip.
OK well every one likes to talk about Alocasia Robusta as the largest solid leaf in the world. Well I am not sure if that is completely true. See the plant I am holding in the pic is still just a baby. This plant can grow up to 20 possible 3 ft tall with leaves that rival that of Robusta. I believe robusta may have a bit longer looking leaves but Cytrosperma Merkusii gets monsterous and I have heard of plants with 10ft long leaves and 8 feet wide. If that is so they may need to put the crown on this plants head.
As always, very entertaining as well as informative!!
Brian, is the first one a Crystal Anthurium? I have one, I just love the leaves. The first one I saw was at Mary's Greenhouse in McMinnville, TN about 25 years ago. It was huge and beautiful.
I need to find a second job so I can afford my addiction, lol. Love your pictures!
I have GOT to have me one of those!!!!!! (the Merkusii, that is)
The anthurium is not crystallinum it is regale. They look alot alike but imagine your crystallinum getting 5 times bigger.
As for the cyrtosperma I have some rooted up. Its aquatic and likes to stay really warm. Like I say not for everyone but if you can grow it. It is an amazing plant.
Wow, a crystal anthurium on steroids!!! Now that would be nice.
I saw the cyrtosperma for sale online, but I decided I could do without it as it sounded a bit fussy.
The crypto is aquatic?
Dude, we have so much to talk about when I get there in March/April ...
I'd normally try any pawn beer duty off onto Jerry, but after the last package I received in the mail from him, I think beer duty is on me.
Nice photos, as always!
Speaking of Cyrtosperma....do any of you know of anyone who has successfully grown them indoors? I've seen a few photos recently and I'm 'intrigued'!
Bwilliams, I'm thrilled to see the photo of Cyrtosperma Merkusii. I just purchased a Cyrto. johnstonii and although it is a small plant w/ only 3 leaves, I'm looking forward to growing it larger.
Was the merkusii in a pond setting on display or was it just potted? The leaves are so impressive -- no blemishes or tears. But seeing you hold a leaf shows me that it could easily be a wrap-around cape or something. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing!
Lynn
The merkusii was in a pond display growing naturally. Cytrosperma is one of my favorite groups of aroids They have a unique look to them the stems are reptilian looking and the leaves are so impressive not to mention the odd thorns which are usually on the stems. This was the group that got me interested in aroids. But growing them can be a challenge they like warm to hot temps and very warm water. I think they can be grown inside but need bright light with warm temps maybe a well heated sun room.
