Tropicman got Famous

Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

I don't see any mention of this but there was quite a nice article about Tropicman in our local paper. I looked for the name Dave's Garden too but it looks like the author decided not to advertise for us. LOL

Here's the link if this works http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/living/12786661.htm

Hi Gang,
I want to thank you all for such kind words,Annie came out and spent a couple hours interviewing me and touring the gardens,I mentioned Daves Garden quite a few times, and surprised it wasn't mention also.
The photographer came out a couple days later, and took several pictures,in several different locations. As he was taking the pictures,we talked about his homeland of Boliva, where he has lived near the rainforest, and commented on how much the gardens reminded him of the amazon.
Since this article has appear,I have recieved phone calls from gardners in and around Wichita, wanting advice and my opinions on different ways in overwintering tropicals.
And have been lucky enough to have met a couple nice ladies, who came out to the house for a tour of the Gardens, and yesterday I returned the visit to one of there gardens, which was a huge Japanese Garden, with lots of evergreens and tropicals combined, and this particular gardner was 76 years young, and takes care of it all herself.
This garden had several ponds, streams waterfalls,I was sad to see the huge amount of damage that last winters ice storm had done to the oak trees, which had fallen and damaged so many japanese maples, she is such a sweetheart, she has trimmed them back and they are making a nice recovery, but it will takes some time,as we all know how slow they can grow, and were talking about 28 different varieties, and about equal amount of large evergreen rhodies and Azealas,

Larry I dig my bananas, just like I dig everything else, nothing special, shake as much soil off as I can,and you can even remove the roots, for when you plant next spring they will have to grow new ones again.
Most crawl spaces will have temperatures just above freezing, which keeps the bananas in a dormant state until next april.

I'm hoping from this article, that the garden society will schedule
a garden tour later in the summer, for those folks who grow tropicals and can have there gardens visited by the rest of the community who grow the standard gardens that we all love to tour in early spring. Due to the warm temperatures they think its just to hot for tours, but morning and evening the temperatures are mild enough, that I think enough people can come and visit without much heat related problems.
