Virtual Memory Problem

Lexington, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi All,
With the help of a friend I think I lost my virtual memory. I did have a virus problem and got rid of that with the Spy Doctor (said I had over 5000 infected files). Now I really can’t do much at all until I get the sign of low virtual memory. I do have 256 of memory but think I corrupted it. How do I check? I am using a Dell dimension 4500 computer. Would also like to up grade my memory even if I get the 256 working. There is some way of opening the top of the Dell but I can’t get it to work. If I were to get another memory stick, where is the best place to go? I found out from Best Buy they wanted a $100 for a 256 stick, not installed. I am assuming that there are two 128 ones in the computer and I hope to replace one with a 256 stick.

Now I haven’t been in here for quite a while and expect to take some flak from my friends here. Go ahead and I will answer all.
