My Pitiful Specimen

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 9a)

I bought my Brug back in May. It was at leat three feet tall at the time and already Y'd.

I chose this one over the another that already had buds.

Now I could just cry....the season is almost over and this stubborn thing has not given me one single bloom.

What did I do wrong?

If you fed and watered her enough, gave her light, and kept the bugs off of her, I'd say it was just the weather this year. It took my brugs a long time to set buds in the heat. Maybe as it cools down, you will see blooms. I sure hope so.

Mine did soooo much better once I started a regular fertilizer program.

I fed....I watered....I pleaded....I begged....maybe before it frosts, I'll get something. :)

She is not in full sun....can that be the problem?

She is in a pot....Can that be a problem?

I kept her in a large pot because I thought I would just bring her inside when it started to get cooler.....Can I do this?

I'd say a large pot is fine.....mine are in 20 gallon pots. Good sun helps as long as it isn't beating down hot. Then they need some afternoon shade for their own protection. In the fall, when the temps remain in the mid eighties or less, they can probably take full sun.

dbibb i did all you did to know blooms on mine.. all leaves fell off came back on full no buds... i'm going to try this winter in house..

I am also going to winter mine in the house. Maybe I will get something before I bring it in...or I might have to wait until next year.

I guess I can wait...I waited two years to see 2 blooms on my clematis vine.

dbibb, it wasn't anything you did, or did not do, I have three that are the same way, I have dug them up and taken all the large leaves off so they can put their energy into budding.

The only solution Dee is to get a few dozen more brugs like Doris has. LOL. She now has had tons of blooms. I remember when she too was dismayed over having none.

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

You are not alone Dee..... my brugs have all done really well and grown tall - just a very few blooms but now they are setting on all kinds of buds..... of course we could have frost ANY TIME ....... isn't that how it goes.....

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Dee.. I had several brugs this year ( my first) and the ones in full sun budded out first. THe ones I had in partial shade took their own sweet time. One still hasn't budded although it's two sister seedlings budded a couple months ago. I don't think the pot is the problem since I have a cutting I got less than a month ago and have in in a pot in full sun and it has already budded.

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 9a)

OK...that does it. This little baby is going into direct sunlight from now until just before frost hits. Down here that could be a while. Maybe I'll get some blooms after all!!!!
