Oh man, I am ecstatic! Yesterday I stopped by a large nursery while visiting my daughter in a near-by town. Went straight to the "houseplant" section looking for hoyas. Found this hanging basket that is marked "H. Nummulariodes" and it is FULL of blooms!! Of course, I did the Happy Dance like nobody's business (much to my daughter embarrassment - LOL). Bought that beauty, hung it on the shirt hook in the back seat of the car & within seconds, the entire car was filled with a wonderfully sweet fragrance! I couldn't believe such tiny blooms could create so much aroma.
AlohaHoya - - I checked your list of hoyas and the name does appear, but no picture. Would anyone care to verify the name? Honestly, I don't care WHAT it's called - I'm thrilled to pieces to have found it. And at $15.99....what a deal!!
The leaves are very THICK and sandpapery-feeling......and seem to be spaced rather far apart. There are penducles all OVER and several blooms of little white stars with pink centers. No bigger than the tip of my pinky finger.
Take a look and see......tell me what you all think.
THANKS.....Betsy
H. Nummulariodes?
Oh ...uh....DUUUH. I just checked "Plant Files"....there are pictures and the blooms/overall plant DOES look like that...
(sometimes I forget about Plant Files). =0)
What a find and to be blooming like that!! I know you were doing more then a happy dance! LOL That is a beautiful plant.
Congrats on the blooms, don't they smell great?
Yep it's easy to forget Plantfiles, hopefully you'll be posting some pics of yours there.
Btw noticed that someone posted wrong pictures under H. nummularioides and will have to get that corrected by the DG folks.
NICE!!!! Congratulations!
I have one plant and it grows beautifully for me...blooming now too!
Your collection is growing by leaps and bounds, Betsy!
Excellent find Betsy! It is always a treat to find a new Hoya, but, finding a blooming Hoya??? Priceless!!! Congratulations!
What a sweet score! The plant looks really healthy!
Heather
I'm jealous! Congratulations!!
Ann
Oh my what a nice score. I'm jealous too. I have zippo, zero buds on mine, and of course my sister's is loaded, I'm thinking it may be the bird... No mine was not in enough sun this year, it's hard to move and get all your little babies in the right spot again.
Congratulations!!! She is a BEAUTY!!!!
Thanks all....isn't it so exciting?!?
Yes, my collection is growing! Couldn't stand it and ordered a couple from Rob's Violet Barn. (see pic) Australias, Curtsii, Lanceolata bella, and "Reb Buttons". Problem is, I'm finding not only are these things ADDICTING (isn't there a post out there about that?!), I'm also finding I'm into INSTANT GRATIFICATION! As thrilled as I was to get these new additions...they are so SMALL....it'll be foreeeever til they bloom (hear the whine in my voice?). =0)
I can provide you with some instant gratification. email me if you are interested.
Susan
Susan Va, I do not know if it is a CV or a species, but, I do believe there is a larger leaf form of H. nummularoides. The flowers and fragrance are very similar.
