Thanks Donna,
Well It said it was a finicky plant to grow!!
Rainwater or Distilled water only, and temps no lower than 65*
Well it took temps to 46* so far and have been watering with well water.
I guess I will find out in time!!!
The person I bought if from said this, "High humidity, warm temperatures are conducive to this plant's well-being and shade if grown outdoors. In my garden, stromanthes are well-shaded and do not receive any sunlight at all. I really must admit that stromanthes will be a standout among your houseplants and I have found it very easy to take care of. No trouble at all, really."
He didn't mention anything about rainwater or distilled. I haven't been doing that and won't be. It's got to toughen up around my place...lol.

Same here!!!
Be tough or be gone!!! LOL
I grow them...and even planted them in early morning sun which they don't LOVE but muddle thru it.
I tried this plant but die because of over watering : (

I've got it two color forms.Always been easy for me, stood lots of neglect thei summer outdoors, just don't let it dry out too much and keep warm.Bright light not full sun.Feed occassionally
i got some this summer and they are in a pot with morning sun for a short time and very loose potting mix (jungle growth). they've put on a couple of new leaves and i love them so far. i water about every 10 days. i've got one of those water meters and since they don't have much of a root system yet, the soil stays damp for now. i will let you know next year if they made it thru the winter here. debi
Thanks everyone,I guess this plant is still too new to get an ideal growing info on,I quess neglet has been best so far!!!LOL
I'll try but can't quarrantee I can give it much neglect!!!
Especially during the winter time too much spare time on my hands, when you can't get outside because of the cold!!!
I've had one of these plants for a couple of years now - I keep in a pot and bring indoors and put in my bathroom in the winter. I brought it in last year when the night temps were getting in the low 40's. To me this is not a difficult plant at all - In the summer it gets morning sun and filtered afternoon shade and unless it is a dry year only gets watered when it rains. I think it likes the humidity in Florida - if I were you and when you put inside - I would mist it occasionally and keep a water dish close so it gets alot of humidity and doesn't dry out.
oh yes, i will be bringing mine in too if the temps fall like they did last winter. debi
One of my favorite plants give to me by a good friend. Nothing seems to bother it including regular water from the hose packed with chlorine and whatever else they put in it. Mine also stays in filtered light and will be making its trip back into the house tomorrow. She is a good grower. I would guess that the original plant is now four plants, at least.
Thanks
Glad to hear all that good info,
tomorrow nite temps down to 38*
so will be bringing it inside to some warmer temps,
Donna, where did you find it up here?
There was a guy on ebay.ca selling it. Got it pretty cheap. It looks like it's putting up babies.

Neato!
Donna your plant is so beautiful and healthy, I killed mine because of over watering, so you can call me killer.....LOL

Yipes, I got one this summer, and just stuck it in a pot in the shady corner of my deck. I haven't done anything to it except give it an occasional squirt from the hose, and it's doing fine....I didn't realize they were so persnickity....You all are making me nervous now!
:)
