Irises

Shavertown, PA(Zone 5a)

I dont know if I'm in the correct forum for iris but does anyone have any advice for me?...I have some beautiful Iris which did not bloom this year and I have a feeling it is because the tubers got covered with soil. I know I didn't plant them this way, I'm not sure how this happened. But I am considering moving them for next year. Should I dig them now and replant in the fall in the new location or wait until spring when they are just starting to sprout leaves. Should I cut down the leaves now or leave them to dry off like tulips and daffodils? Thanks.

Hi kathiLO
I just moved some irises from my parents, I cut my fan to about four to five inches, check for bugs, cut off old and damaged parts, let them dry a little, dust with seven.

I replant them so the back of the ryzome is exposed to the sun.

Irises don't die back like tulips, in August i trim the fans once more time to encourage them to multiply, I transplant my irises most of the time in August .

When the weather is going to be cooler sometimes I transplant then, I hope this helps you.

If you ever have any to share keep me in mind, My wife and I are Iris addicts and are looking for all colors.

We had to leave our gardens behind when we moved in February of this year.

Sending you a BLH your way, Mike

Thanks for the info. Do you do anything special to your soil. I've only planted in regualr garden soil. Should I be doing something different?

Hi kathiLO
